How do you consume F1?
Re: How do you consume F1?
C4 viewer here too (alongside Autosport for the past 35+ years)
As feared after reading about Sky's constraints (limit on number of paddock interviews, grid access, pit lane access, zero C4 access to drivers' press pen, and restricting percentage of programme length given to on-track action) the Melbourne highlights felt a little light. But still a quality product
(Also mourning the loss of IndyCar from BT Sport this season ...to Sky of course!)

Re: How do you consume F1?
Subscribe to Sky Sports purely for the F1, so if they did a pick/mix sports bundle it would save me some money each month. However as I have very few vices, its one that I am willing to pay for.
The only disappointment with the Sky coverage is that they have ditched the "Ted's Notebook". To me that was one of the elements of the coverage that I really enjoyed due to the random nature of it. Seemingly Ted is now stuck to a mid week show which is in the UK.
Not found the real reason for ditching the Notebook and can only speculate that there must have been salaries cuts due to getting Button on board. However despite the news that Button is joining he was severely absent in the coverage that I saw of Melbourne.

I used to enjoy the notebook too, in fact a couple of seasons ago I found myself watching only qualifying, grid walk, race and notebook. The problem is, Ted is crazy biased, more so than Shouty Croft, to the point that he comes up with the most ridiculous theories on why something negative happened to Hamilton. At first it was funny, but as the season goes on, it sees me raging at the TV. Shouting at the completely idiotic crap that's being spouted. So I stopped watching. He'd then try to blame it on another team, or somehow manage to defend Merc doing something, whilst accusing another team of doing something else, which was obviously the same thing, but 1 is good, the other is bad.douglasgdmw wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:21 amThe only disappointment with the Sky coverage is that they have ditched the "Ted's Notebook". Like, Lewis runs a car wide on a corner, causing it to leave the track. It'd be genius - the best idea ever.
Max or Danny Ric do it and it'd be controversial, part of that racer instinct.
Anyone else do it and it'd be clearly cheating.
In Aus, he'd probably be going on about how Merc pitting Hamilton to cover off Vettel meant that Ferrari was to blame for Hamilton loosing the race - reverse the roles and he'd be talking about the amazing Mercedes strategy to deprive Ferrari of a win..
Moaning about Ted aside....
I found out last night that they are showing all 17 Indy car races on Sky Sports F1 this year too, so if you're not away, you can set a season record.

Re: How do you consume F1?
I managed to catch up with the All4 coverage before it expired. I thought the coverage was excellent and C4 have made an excellent show despite the restrictions. Adding both Stephano Domenicali and Billy Monger to the line has kept it fresh too.
Re: How do you consume F1?
I watched the 2nd Indycar race at Circuit of the Americas, first Indycar race I've watched probably since the mid/late 90s, and it was very good, certainly much better than the Aussie GP, though that was probably a given!
Things that stood out to me compared to F1:
- I guess I have to mention that it's a straight US feed from NBC, which means you get the American commentary, complete with it's advertising, except when they have adverts, where we get to watch cars going around with no overlays and no commentary.
- The cars are pretty quick - google reveals, 15 seconds down on F1 at COTA, but 170mph down the straight is nothing to shrug off, and they can follow closely.
- Push To Pass probably makes more sense than DRS - 200 seconds per race, 10 second max burst, of 60hp more.
- Track limits - Indycar allowed them to use the tarmac at corner exits, so the 1st and last corner at COTA saw the whole field running wide over the kerbs, which meant my brain told me there was a pile up every lap.
- Pitstops look more physical - more basic too, less people, despite still having refuelling, the pitlane side front wheel gun man throws the gun across the front of the car and turns into the guy that waves the car out whilst someone across the garage side wall pulls the gun in. Quick squirt of water on the fuel filler, and they are off...

Watched the French GP highlights this evening. What an impressive individual young Billy Monger continues to be. Completely holds his own on C4 F1 coverage with a great manner and insight. If you haven’t seen the documentary on him either, it is pretty much essential viewing.

Re: How do you consume F1?
I would agree & in general the Ch4 team is so much better than Sky commentary. I was able to watch some of the practice coverage on Sky and they appeared to be more engrossed in their own chat rather than current F1 racing.

Re: How do you consume F1?
Ditched Sky Sports and don't miss it.
Completely missed this weekend's French GP due to work (didn't even see C4 highlights) and didn't put me up or down.
Seems it's becoming somewhat "meh" for me now....

Bit concerned too.
Had a long standing dream to take the family to Abu Dhabi GP next year. But just not sure it will excite any more.
