Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
Sure Evo ran a Citroen DS3 for a while, may just be "warm" rather than "hot" however

Probably doesn't fit with things not breaking but you should own an Alfa at least once in your life.

Wow. Might have a winner there, Gary.
Assume similar annual budget to purchase price to keep it going?!

See post 1.woody wrote: Ah. It's for you. So what are the actual parameters?
Some dispute over whose turn it is to choose but maybe we can make it joint (fat chance).

It's vauxhall/ GM based, so unlikely. Joanna's brother had one, also a prodrive, he really likes it and doesn't seem to have any issues. The roof, despite being glass, has fixed roofling inside, though that can be removed.
Still, it's a coupe and not a hot hatch

Ours is 3dr - less need for space now both kids have their own carsalicrozier wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 1:06 pmI'd driven one of the old 1.8T Polos and it was a pup, tried the newer 2.0 ones before Mrs C got her Cooper S and it was comfortable but just a bit meh.
Current MINI Cooper S only acceptable in 3 dr form and preferably with 'works' body and 'Porsche Lava Orange' paint...
The 5 door is indeed a complete munter!
Back on budget:
A bit off the wall, rare and marmite but the £10K vintage 208 GTi got a really good write up at the time.

Edited, no French cars /facepalm
Not driven one but could just about get an Audi S1 quattro...

R56 Cooper S, yes, except you've done the MINI thing, and I don't think a R56 Cooper S will excite significantly more than a Gen 1 Cooper Clubman. It might even disappoint. Worth a try though. Probably the nicest option to live with daily.
Fiesta ST, yes, except you didn't like the dash on my 1.0 which is pretty much identical to the ST. Should be fun though. Quite cheaply chippable too.
Civic Type R... Good shout! The ep3 is the purist choice, but it'll also be older and leggier, so I'd go for the much better looking fn2. Suitably different to anything in your recent fleet history to make it a nice box to tick. £10k should get the white edition thingy with the white wheels that looks great.
Audi S1/S3. A Golf GTi would be a far better option, and that has been ruled out which suggests to me the Audis should be too. But Mrs Ford may disagree.
I wouldn't rule out Renaultsport or BMW so hastily if it was me, but each to their own.
Why a hatch? It's not like your two are going to fit comfortably in the back of a Fiesta or MINI too well, so is it just for occasional back seat use, or luggage and bike racks? If the TT is staying, what does this replace in the fleet, if anything?

If your going to wear a medalion it has to have a complimenting chest rug. Ditch the 2.2 and go for a proper Alfa:campbell wrote:Wow. Might have a winner there, Gary.

Ross is right, but you want the 5 door F55 not the 3 door F56 Mini. Not a great looker, but nice enough and the quality is a decent leap from the previous gen. 3 door Mini and seat 4 adults don’t go together.

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
I was pleasantly surprised by the space - but best treat it as a decent 3 seater and you're fine.
Campbell, your kids would fit fine, my 2 are about 6' and 5'6" but it's rare all 4 are travelling together.

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
Golf gti is the obvious answer (best car in the world!)
After that, GT86, or Up gti is where my 10k would be going.

GT86 has comedy back seats. So no.
Hadn’t thought of Supermini...Up GTI not out the question. Although motorway manners presumably questionable.

To some extent, “just ‘cos”.graeme wrote:Why a hatch? It's not like your two are going to fit comfortably in the back of a Fiesta or MINI too well, so is it just for occasional back seat use, or luggage and bike racks? If the TT is staying, what does this replace in the fleet, if anything?
Seeking some basic practicality plus useable back seats. Fiesta or MINI fine in back for moderate journeys. TT tears are now outgrown.
TT will go if I find the right proposition.
Elise and Skoda non-negotiable.
