Best hot hatch for £10k
Best hot hatch for £10k
For a bit of fun...and tentative market research.
Nothing too old with things starting to break.
Must seat 4 adults without stooping / folding.
I’ll start.
Polo GTI MY2015 - the 1.8 model
What else?

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
After moving from the RS4 to a Golf Gti PP, would definitely recommend the Mk7 Golf GTi.
Admit its not the pinacle of driver involvement in the hot hatch group, but for a car that does everything not much in this sector can touch it

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
I love hot hatches and have had quite a few in various guises.
Depends what you want from it. For longer journeys and something a bit more "mature", the golf GTi has to be a serious contender. Polo is a slightly shrunken golf.
For something a bit more fun, and a bit more driver focused, it has to be the Fiesta ST. It is a sharper steer that the polo. It is big on the fun factor. Some passengers complained about a harsh ride (better on the Mk 8, but you won't get one of them under 10K). I don't think the ride was too harsh at all. Really miss my Mk7 ST.... a Mk 8 is deffo on my list for the future - poss near future!
Folk will say the Fiesta ST is the obvious choice and that they are everywhere - that may be true, but there is a good reason for that - they are bloody great wee cars!
Spec is king - get one with as many toys as you can; you will get to enjoy them while you have it, and will have something easier to move on when the time comes. Just my 2p of course!

Dom - ST was mentioned even by the kids
Sanj - er, no. Forgot to say - BMWs need not apply.

Surely you can’t overlook Renault here, Clio might be a bit small but an RS Meg would certainly entertain?

...Dom said Polo is a shrunken Golf. Just to clarify, the Polo doesn't drive anything like a Golf GTi or indeed Fiesta ST etc. Polo is pretty guff.

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
Pleasantly surprised when I tried and F56 (current shape/3rd gen) Mini Cooper when looking for Mrs B - so much so I bought one!
Hers is the 1.5t 3cyl with lots of toys.
Ok, you'd need the 2.0t Cooper S as a proper "hot" hatch but I've been more than happy with the ability to sit on cruise control at motorway speeds, the sports seats are very comfortable and supportive
Not for everyone I know, but hey ho

Regarding the rest it's really down to Ford and Renault with the ST foost/focus and RS clio/Mégane

Re: Best hot hatch for £10k
Man maths your budget up to an Evora by selling the kids legs?
Jokes aside, ep3 type R would come in significantly under budget even for a good one and pretty bombproof and they are a right hoot. A ‘teg might stretch the hatchback definition and practicality requirements a bit but worth a look if you can stomach the wing.

You could get a standard Golf GTi for £10k however suspect it would be an early Mk7, private sale and average miles.campbell wrote:Steve - helpful

Doubt you would get a PP for that price unfortunately. I paid a lot, lot more for Sandra's Mk7.0 PP but that was low mileage for the year, VW franchised and relatively high spec'd and also had a DSG box (minority on a GTi).
