Lots of false info floating around . . . Pork Taycan battery capacity is ~<90kWh, tesla3 is ~>75kWh so they are not dramatically different, the problem, and back to my original point, is that you can't use it on the supercharger network (which is the only high speed widely distributed network available), where you can practically fast charge it . . . tesla have that side of things understood, it's not just about the (badly made) car, it's the whole system, and that will only become more relevant as the energy storage strategy for the country moves out into plugged in vehicles and houses with local storage as is inevitable.

On BEV's and sustainability : https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/c ... 4/1454.pdf

Even the muppet ridden politicos accept that BEV's are not sustainable and that hydrogen must come into play . . . for all the reasons mentioned . . .

Anyway, I still have my starship milage elise, which has appollo moon landing levels of electronics and is better for it . . . ;-) . . . no crappy cost reduced software in that . . . how long will we be able to drive these types of cars into cities (and why would you) . . .
The answer is that we cannot wait for any government strategy and we adopt a simpler home/ garage storage system and sell any “ overs” back into the grid .
Solar/ Wind turbine for battery float?

What I found interesting was the Henry's garage piece with the Lotus Esprit. When he was at the petrol station filling up the double tanks of the esprit, he calculated that the mileage/consumption over ita lifetime was the equivalent to a lorry pounding the highways for less than a month (may have been even less).

This is the frustration level of these classic/weekend cars that normal joe public thinks they are the devils spawn, but in reality, over their lifetime they consume so much less co2 and are kept longer and in better condition that their contribuition is negligible.

If only they consumed CO2 ... unfortunately they produce it.

On the subject of EV energy storage I am not convinced that Hydrogen will be the solution for cars. More likely is an alternate battery. The energy density of batteries continues to climb as does the charge rate. There are many possible battery chemistries some of which are waiting for technological advancement to become feasible.

The progression of EV from Lithium Ion to some other battery chemistry will be transitional step for what will be quite a large installed base in the next 10 years. If the lying fcuk that we call a government stick to their word then by 2030 not a lot of diesel and petrol cars will be sold; so something else will need to fill the gap; the momentum today is with BEV and that's likely to be the case for the next 5 years. So Hydrogen is going to have to get a move on, or it must aim to be the next disruptor in the market; if the BEV crowd can standardise on a fast charging infrastructure that will further increase the bar for Hydrogen.

Large scale Hydrogen production is more likely (IMHO) to feed industrial power generation - e.g. as part of a closed loop synthentic Methane loop.

VW will be the market leader in EV cars soon they have invested heavily in it after there diesel scandal. Unfortunately they cant keep up with demand, there new ID3 car is due out very soon and the Aberdeen car dealer allegedly only has 5 launch cars coming this year.

I have an order in but the model i have on order is not due until 2022, but im not holding my breath.

Holly now sells Minis for Grassicks and she echoes your sentiment that the manufacturers are not producing enough electric cars to meet current demand ( see what I did there!)

Well done Scotty

And to think it all started, for tesla at any rate, with a converted Elise.
Who'd have thought it would end up where we are now.
