Septic tanks

Post by douglasgdmw » Thu Jun 18, 2020 7:34 am

Not the most interesting subject on S.Elises.

Unfortunately our baffle has gone on our septic tank so we will need to replace it. Its approx 20 yrs old so our neighbours have definitely had their money's worth out of it.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of septic waste companies to use as I will need to get a couple of quotes for comparison

Regards
George

These guys have always been very good.

I think they installed our Klargester originally and I've used them too for servicing. Although we currently use Kingspan for servicing and Envio-clean for emptying.

Note the rules for septic tanks have changed and you might need to replace with a treatment system.

Haven't emptied ours since we moved in which was 5 years ago. I work on the premiss that if it doesn't smell then it's working. Same last time we had one and that went over 10years before we emptied it and then it was because we were selling the place. TBF ours are old style brick built not plastic so work much better.

I have previously used Lanes for Drains who are in Broxburn.

Unsure if they do installations though. :thumbsup

Thanks for that, have sent off an email for them.

Having a read of the rules, I believe that if you have been certified before a certain date (which we are) then it is treated as compliant as long as you replace with like for like. It's only when you are a new septic tank system that you require a treatment system or modifying your sewage arrangement.

However that is a laymans view and sure these guys will be able to confirm appropriately. Hope its ok to replace like for like as a Sewage Treatment System would be a substantial bill.

Already had the joys of shared ownership
