Machine shop query
Machine shop query
Does anyone know any small machine shops, possibly around Aberdeen but doesn't necessarily have to be, that could machine some aluminium centre caps for these Dunlop D1 alloys ?. I'm restoring a set of wheels just now and don't have any centres, the ones you can buy are plastic rubbish. I've done two sets of wheels so far but was able to buy the centres from someone who machined a batch but he's not doing them any more. I have a spare that can be used as a template.

Oft, love those wheels, had a set a few years ago and I may just have a very poor condition original centre cap in my box of bits and pieces, will have a look.
Machine shop wise, I've no longer for access to one and haven't had to use one for years. Stu Pollock on here owns Pollock Precision Engineering in Livingston and may be able to help?
I got a set of 10" rose petals a few weeks ago, attached to a 1971 mini 1000 .

Re: Machine shop query
Thanks Woody,
I have some original caps but they're scrap. The machined aluminium centres look far better in my opinion, the originals are a cheap plated affair. Love the rose petals as well. The D1 is the quintessential 60s/70s alloy. I got a set for my Cooper, restored them then picked up another set then another so I'm always on the lookout for more to restore. I'll PM Stu to see what he says.

I've not got a photo hosting account now, photos of the MK3 are in the link above. I think a set of D1s on it would work a treat. But a front disc set up is probably a better call.
Did you get the latest D1 set from Stirling? Saw a set for sale there.

Re: Machine shop query
That looks good on the petals. The D1s will fit a 7" disc as per my Cooper, just clear of the caliper, but I presume you will go for 7.5", not sure about the rose petals. I haven't been able to find any D1s local unfortunately but if you hear of any please let me know. Where were the set in Stirling advertised ?.

They were on Gumtree. Before I bought the car though.
Rose petals should fit the 7.5" discs fine, most of the historic races seem to use both now.

I think messages only show in sent folder when read. It'll probably still be in your outbox until Stu reads it
