Yahoo Groups

Post by rossybee » Tue Oct 27, 2020 6:12 am

Got an email saying this:
Dear Yahoo Group Moderators and Members,

We are reaching out to let you know that groups.yahoo.com (Yahoo Groups) and its list service will shut down on December 15, 2020. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services. For example, you will continue to be able to use your Yahoo Mail account as usual and read content on Yahoo sites like Yahoo News.

Yahoo Groups (groups.yahoo.com) has seen a steady decline in usage over the last several years. Over that same period we’ve witnessed unprecedented levels of engagement across our properties as customers seek out premium, trustworthy content. To that end, we must sometimes make difficult decisions regarding products that no longer fit our long-term strategy as we hone our focus on other areas of the business.

Beginning December 15, 2020 the groups.yahoo.com website will shut down and members will not be able to access the website or use its features. We’ve compiled a comprehensive FAQ here that includes alternative providers and information on how this will impact your group content.

Thank you for helping us build one of the earliest digital communities — we’re proud and honored to have forged countless connections over the last 20 years and played a small part in helping build your communities.

Sincerely,
The Yahoo Groups team
Didn't even know it still existed :P

That'll be that then, end of an era, etc

:cheers

Was admin for SE. Although Robin was owner and I’m fairly sure the email he’d have used is long gone

End of an era that. All products have a life cycle I guess.

I lost the email address that was the list owner. I tried to reclaim the list from Yahoo but they wanted me to send copies of passport and stuff like that by post. I wasn't bothered enough to continue...

Anyway looks like they have sorted it for us now 👍
