Sounds like you've been through it Ian :(

I used motorway at the start of the year, super easy and got the price I wanted in 1 day. Would certainly use again and totally hassle free (for me) Currently have agreed to buy something sight unseen (but the fella is somewhat trustworthy ;)) so just waiting to hear when it might be ready.

Agreed unlucky yes but some of the circumstances around timings/COVID restrictions/distance buy became a factor.

I do feel a bit pissed off my diligence hasn’t worked out

Yes 1st one mapped.
Bought via non VW dealer but still a big franchise, ironically dealer had been to a VW garage pre-purchase accepted for warranty to sort gearbox oil leak (got the proof !)but couldn’t be done for weeks so I agreed to take rather than delay. Full Vw diligence/diagnostics when starting the repair showed it was mapped, refused to repair under warranty.
Dealer was good they were also unaware and took car back. Offered to repair plus add their own warranty etc but decided to decline and return car.
I had only driven a non performance pack Golf before this one, it did seem faster than I expected but thought it was just the performance pack. Without the gearbox leak I probably wouldn’t have known for a while about the mapping.

2nd one more troublesome, this is a VW franchised dealer and VW approved used car.
Explicitly asked and stated in writing as good condition, no bodywork, no mechanical work, no warranty work done of any sort. Stated as full history is known as it was pre-registered then an employee car so we know everything about this car.

Branch have been very evasive and very untrustworthy.

Slight warnings bells on collection, assured it was all ok and nothing to it car was as discussed.
Once home a few days later in day light and not pouring rain I took a good look. Noticed broken glass appearing in car, unusual damage to both front wings, full left hand side had been resprayed, lacquer wasn’t perfect in a couple of places and didn’t look resprayed in a fully clean environment, both nearside tyres had been replaced, both diamond cut wheels had been refurbished with signs of some filling rather than typical remachined and lacquered

Eventually was told this story, don’t believe some of the detail but irrelevant now.

Car had been broken into when up for sale on the forecourt , window smashed, headlights/grill and other parts stolen there was definitely no body damage due to this. Genuine parts replacement. Fits with damage to front wings on headlight removal (although I was still being blamed for likely damaging both front wings since purchase).

Also stated (eventually) car had got keyed while with the employee who got it repaired himself, no proof of repair or approved/guaranteed. This plus replaced tyres (1 replacement tyre dated 2015), wheel repairs etc still meets VW fully approved and suitable car for sale, we didn’t know or notice anything about employee repairs until we asked on your behalf after purchase, and the sales executive pre-purchase who replied directly to you did not know about the forecourt damage and work required so he was also answering honestly. The sales manager you spoke to on the purchasing day in person who also assured you car was as discussed/described we believe was also unaware of the forecourt repair work but he is now no longer with the company so we can’t confirm.

Hence time to chill and move on with the Mini for now.
Still pursuing as a point of principle but having offloaded the car I know it means any suitable resolution is difficult but I’m happy with my decision.

Is it me or have dealers now all dropped to the car supermarket level of service with many buyers not aware they are being fleeced or not caring enough to avoid buying from them.
I recently responded to a Vauxhall 48 hour test drive offer of a Mokka EV ( no laughing at the back). Arnold Shark and Peter Vardy both flatly denied there was such an offer and after checking said they didn’t have a car available end of conversation.
Evans Halshaw booked us in and when we turned up gave us the car after checking proof of ID and licences and waved us off for 48 hours in the Sales Managers car without any handover. 2 days later we returned the car, dropped the keys in the plastic bag for sanitisation and left. No enquiry about our interest in the car no discussion on how the test drive went, and no follow up since. It’s astounding that they sell any cars and shocking that manufacturers put their trust in them to sell their products.

After a minor off in my Elise resulted in a Cat N I decided to cut my losses and sell it on. Decided to go for something slightly more comfortable and practical that would allow me and the missus to take more weekend trips away... which also encouraged her to endorse a budget increase;)

Have just bought this 981 Boxster S - it is a distance purchase so haven't seen it in the flesh yet... gulp... but the garage were great with documents and video so feeling confident!

Should be transported up to Aberdeenshire this coming week. Image

He has a YouTube channel and seems well versed, was looking at his stock for 997 Cabs to replace the Spyder. However due to the market sillyness think we will be waiting till the winter to try and get one cheaper.

That looks great, Paul. Congrats! Love the sport classic wheels on a Boxter. Bring it out for coffee when you've picked it up. 8)

Sad to hear your Elise is gone.
But sure your remote buy will be fine, car looks good.

Interested in hearing how practical you find it and how much you use it.

Should be arriving tomorrow, rather excited! Raj at M R Sportscars has been brilliant - sent through loads of detailed information ahead of sale and sent through several videos today covering features of the car, overview of documents plus videos of it getting loaded onto the transporter.

Will definitely be interesting to see how much more practical and useable it is than the Elise. Obviously will be losing the rawness and connectivity with a car like this but hopefully will still provide enough of a grin factor.

Coming from a S1 Elise, S2 111R and then Evora, you will find that its loads more practical with a frunk and rear boot. Yep there is a bit of rawness lost but its still a very entertaining car.

Just keep away from the OPC and see out a specialist (lots down the central belt and slightly above which I know its not ideal for kintore) and you will have peace free motoring. Feel free to ask for any recommendations :)

I think avoiding OPC is an Edinburgh thing, because their reputation isn't great, although I've never been there. Aberdeen OPC are absolutely fine. Perth seem good too, but only been there once.

It’s been around 12 years since I had a Porsche and after a few visits I ended up avoiding the OPC in Edinburgh and definitely wouldn’t go back.

I would avoid Porsche Aberdeen for sales.
Wouldn't give me the time of day.
Managed to piss off my nephew too when he enquired about a business lease in a Taycan and they fobbed him off.
Was out with the Porsche Club for the first time in Saturday and I gather my experience is not unusual.
Add me to the list of people happy with Porsche Perth.
