We will have a new chassis and 3 new models announced by summer being:
  • Elise S4 starting at 55K (roadster)
  • Exige S4 (track focus)
  • Evora S2? (touring)
  • Starting with ICE (i.e last combustion enginer model)
  • but platform built to move to full EV i.e the way the batteries are stacked mid engine
:popcorn
This is a fundamental change. A brand new facility, huge investment in tooling and staff and stopping production of every model of Lotus in the same year. In all but name, is this a brand new car company?

I admire your love of Lotus, Scott, but I don't think it will be anything like Elise/Exige/Evora replacements. This will be Boxster/Cayman/911 competing cars... perhaps with a Macan alongside at some point. When you read targeting the US market I think you can wave goodbye to a track-focused car replacement. Although I expect most will be track-able,...again, like Porsche.

In many ways I hope I am wrong - what makes Lotus unique is it being a little more hard-core, but with that investment in facilities and range, I expect their new range will be softer in the future. No idea how the collaboration with Alpine fits in with this.

The King is dead.... long live the King.
'03 Elise 111S - Sold :(
'55 Boxster S - Sold :(
'08 Exige S 240PP - Sold :(
'10 Evora NA - Sold :(
'12 Cayman R :)

I assume they will do something similar to Mclaren with one chassis tub (type 131) and three variants/specs, S, Spider, and LT, positioned somewhere between and overlapping the Boxster/Cayman and the 911, rather than three distinct models as with the Elise, Exige and Evora?

I don't really see it being a direct replacement for any of the current cars.

Lotus arguably lose a percentage of there current market in that case. But if the prize is selling more than a few thousand cars a year you can understand why. Like you , I really hope this is not the case.
