This is a fundamental change. A brand new facility, huge investment in tooling and staff and stopping production of every model of Lotus in the same year. In all but name, is this a brand new car company?scott_e wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:03 pm
We will have a new chassis and 3 new models announced by summer being:
- Elise S4 starting at 55K (roadster)
- Exige S4 (track focus)
- Evora S2? (touring)
- Starting with ICE (i.e last combustion enginer model)
- but platform built to move to full EV i.e the way the batteries are stacked mid engine
I admire your love of Lotus, Scott, but I don't think it will be anything like Elise/Exige/Evora replacements. This will be Boxster/Cayman/911 competing cars... perhaps with a Macan alongside at some point. When you read targeting the US market I think you can wave goodbye to a track-focused car replacement. Although I expect most will be track-able,...again, like Porsche.
In many ways I hope I am wrong - what makes Lotus unique is it being a little more hard-core, but with that investment in facilities and range, I expect their new range will be softer in the future. No idea how the collaboration with Alpine fits in with this.
The King is dead.... long live the King.
