Finding myself looking at this quite a lot...

Seems like a well sorted S1 with a few choice mods:

Cool article that, thanks Mark.

Ross. Very cool Exige S1 that. But these are practically museum pieces now. If you want a “jump in and enjoy” on an occasional basis, I don’t think it’s that.

If you want to fettle and enjoy maintenance challenges, plus see your investment rise, it’s a belter.

Great problem to have but expect the market to be tight ... those of us with useable low maintenance Lotuses have just changed our guidance to “Hold”

Im not sure that one is an investment/museum piece, too many mods to take it away from the pristine standard out the wrapper expectation of the purist but I guess as the rarity to market factor increases then of course values will be stable. You are right tho and I'm perhaps dreaming a little as always loved the S1 Exige but I do need a useable car that can get me from A-B without drama year round for when Miniblonde needs the milk float for kiddy ferrying. So modern lotus with 6cylinders thats not an Evora it will likely be.

Hanging on for the inevitable glut of 350, 380, and 410s to hit the market following the FE models...

If the right S2 came up, like a Cup/RGB or a good triple pack with the newer interior.... hmm

That S1 got my juices going. It was a car very like that that caused me to buy my first S1 Elise, and ultimately get into one 5 years ago. I did for a second consider whether I would swap back. If I had room/means for a second toy car I'd have another S1 Exige without question. But the jump in and go, and the track capability of the more modern stuff really adds a lot to how much you get back from your investment. The S1 is MUCH more of event though. Comes down to what you want from it as Campbell says.

Got 3 cars in mind and looking at one, it’s a 380, I’ve got the ECU dump it’s all generally looking ok, all suggestive that it’s not been tracked, fairly low numbers on G not a lot of time in the high speed bands etc etc.... BUT the last 5 highest revs are all round 6800 which I believe is the limiter, and ONE at 7006rpm which suggests a buzzed down shift. I know the lump can take it and the limiter was there to protect the charger but should this be a worry?

Additionally 3 low oil pressure events, all 1.2 seconds and at idle RPM and no Gs, I suspect it’s from starting/shutting off. Bud not seen it on other ECU dumps.

Only buy one of it has had a new chassis - if not expect big bills for a new one yourself.
Now with half an engine

Never seen one with a low oil pressure event tho, even the really bad ones.

It might be safer to buy something other than a Lotus then
