I realised that although I it bought new in 2015, there were things starting to niggle me with the bit and bods that needed to be constantly sorted.
Everything came to a head when a local Land Rover specialist took it for its MOT/Service and came back worse than it went in. So after another LR specialist (who knew what they were doing) sorted the issues, I became even more disheartened about the experience and decided it was time the Defender went.
Now any rational person who decide that if a new(ish) Land Rover was temperamental, they should either go for a different marque and a newer car. However with covid, we decided it was time to get another classic and the hunt was on for a classic landy.
When we were down in Yorkshire last year on holiday, we bumped into the owner of Twisted (as we know his sister). Conversation ensued and they were already thinking of buying my car for their stock. I noticed they had a couple of Series in stock so decided to do a swap of vehicles with cash coming my way.
So in August 2020 I bought this.
Due to Covid, work in the garage stopped. Next thing was that they were prepping the car and found out that the chassis was rotten, however as this was not my fault they said they would order up a new galvanised chassis and fit it on my behalf.
So after a long wait, I got another phone call in April to say that the bulkhead needed repairs, which were salvagable, but they wanted to give me a choice of repair/replacement (obviously at my cost).
So the decision was to take the long term view and get a galvanised bulkhead fitted.
Now came the decision on paint as to whether to try and match the bulkhead or go for a complete repaint. As I wanted the landy to be as perfect as possible, decided that a full repaint would be best.
Due to this delay, decided to get little bits/bobs done as well to make her as presentable as possible, replenish the galv, paint the wheels etc
Unfortunately due to everyone else doing their garage projects, it did mean that some things I would have liked done, like a new wiring loom, were not possible due to part delays.
So after a very long wait, "Yulanda" eventually arrived on Thursday, just in time to be used for a friends wedding at the weekend.
However, looks like Yulanda will be returning back to Yorkshire for the short term to get some niggles sorted. They replaced the crankcase seal and unfortunately she is leaking oil on the garage floor.
Hoping it will not long till she returns again.
