Re: Treadmills
We bought a treadmill a couple of years ago and ended up with a NordicTrak (https://www.nordictrack.co.uk/) and iFit subscription. Since we have had the treadmill other parties like Peloton have jumped into the game.
Our model is discontinued - however as we went for a reasonable spec one we do not feel hard done by as the majority of the benefit comes from the interactive programs.
We have the iFit subscription (part of Nordictracks service and renewable each year) and although it is quite americanised we have found it good and the content has been getting better and better as the years have gone on. Sandra is usually on the treadmill 2-3 times per week and usually does either a live or pre-loaded session.
Couple of things I would recommend you try to get:
- Decide whether its for running or walking (determines the incline)
- Biggest screen you can
- Get someone to fit it - saves a lot of hassle on any warranty claims (albeit we have never had to use it)
- Have it located downstairs (they can make a lot of noise) and fit a sound absorbing mat on the bottom
- Heart rate monitor is a good edition
Happy to have a look at ours if you want to get an idea of the iFit program Also Powerhouse fitness on Leith Walk is a good place to go for advice.
Any questions then feel free to ask
Cheers

Ferg
I have one of these but I’m not using it as I don’t have the room since I bought a peloton bike

Would probably sell it if you were interested ?

Re: Treadmills
If you live in a timber framed house then definitely put it downstairs, garage preferably if you have one - ours is currently up stairs and the noise is pretty bad.
Re: Treadmills
These days I do a bit of running. I thoroughly recommend reconsidering the outdoors vs the treadmill. Ignoring the well being stuff (fresh air, natural light, blah, blah) the main difference I think is that running on treadmills is going to get boring, unless you are seriously into your strava-peleton-blah-blah virtual races on the screen, in which case I cannot comment.
We don't live very far apart and I haven't found the weather to be a big challenge (I think I haven't lost a single day to weather this year; last year the couple of weeks of snow and ice was a write off, but the rest of the year was fine).
It's worth looking into the usual stuff like couch 2 5K, running clubs normally have people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels, parkrun and even just a friend or two to go running with from time to time.
Doesn't mean you shouldn't get a treadmill, of course! They are noisy. That's all I know about them

Re: Treadmills
Try outdoors now that clocks have changed. Walk an hour if you don't already do so and not up to running too far. Jog Scotland, Park run 5kms etc, local joggers groups. The interaction with others will keep you motivated to keep turning up .
Re: Treadmills
Good input from all. A majority of the challenge is getting back into the habit. I suspect it'll be a mix of outdoors and treadmills. I did manage to get one, but will intermix it with outdoors. Good to have the option.
Re: Treadmills
Parkrun? Was that mentioned?

Re: Treadmills
I got a treadmill last year and found that watching TV while running helped appease the boredom. It can’t be anything you have to concentrate too much on, or you’ll fall off (ask me how I know)Ferg wrote:Good input from all. A majority of the challenge is getting back into the habit.
