On reflection, each of Jon, Will and Craig will probably be offered Elises which they can’t / won’t retail officially but would be a “project” vehicle for a keen spannerererer.

Being on their radar looking for such a car might just work.

Note that all will probably still apply a sales margin if they move such a car on to you. But it probably beats North East Salvage and also the dealer you were talking to about that silver one

It is indeed!

I messaged the S1 owner that douglasgdmw posted earlier in this thread. Poor service history, both soft and hard tops need repairs and they were suggesting a full respray was required because of osmosis. It is a 111s though......

As its in Hawick and if your interested after you check thing out yourself, I would probably ask if the owner was willing to get it up to CMC for a thorough inspection and Craig will give you an honest opinion on it mechanically and potential cost to rectify anything.

If the service history was good, no paint osmosis or issues with the soft top - it would probably be priced at £20k +

My 1st Elise was a Norfolk Mustard S1 111S so fond memories of these.

Hi All,

I had a chat with a guy called Phil (nice guy) at Allon White about this car.....

https://allonwhite.co.uk/used-lotus-car ... y-red-u432

It's been advertised for a while and needed a paint job on both doors. Previously they were going to charge to fix the paint but are now including it in the sale price.

It's not my favourite colour but seems like a more sensible car to go for. I've read that the times you are cruising on the motorway the base engine revs are high and can be pretty rubbish. The long term plan is to use the car for road trips to Europe, is it really that bad on the motorway?

The S1 in Hawick turned out to be a cat D so along with the other issues I've discounted it.

Also been looking at this one and have been chatting to the owner....

https://www.paulrileycars.co.uk/details ... .8/720270/

I appreciate this isn't the most exciting thread for others to read!!

I feel I'm getting to the point of paralysis by analysis!! (stolen from Campbell).

Cheers

Low miles on the S2. Could work especially if they really do fix the paint. Properly.

That S1 is a museum piece and you’ll never be done fixing it.

Any Elise is noisy on a m-way. Some more than others. Wrong exhaust will make any of them unbearable. Earplugs or good earbud headphones are all you need.

If you want a good cruiser / GT then target the S2 111S version which has longer 4th & 5th gears. Or a Europa (rare and probably £££ now)

Could you stretch to this one?

Or ask Santa to chip in for this 111S (ask Craig what he thinks of it)

If Jon’s one was a short tail then I would have been tempted as I want to get a hardtop (thinking about longer trips again).

That 111s has been up for a while. Advert says roof doesn’t leak but posts on SELOC by the owner suggests the opposite.

Earbud headphones sounds like a cheaper solution for the times I would have to drive on the motorway!

Good reconnaissance.

Any Elise roof can leak. My S3 roof leaks a little but it’s of no real consequence.

On long-tail roofs, I *think* they can be converted to short-tail. Bit of SELOC digging needed maybe … although a quick Google suggests it’s a pricey project

I think I’d be looking closely at 111S examples. Find a way to push the budget a touch if necessary? No guarantees but surely Elise values are now fairly stable…

Should the 111s examples include S1 and S2? I’ve definitely noticed prices seem to be settling down and more consistent.

Could do

But as I think we’ve discussed, S1s are always going to be harder to keep on the road.

I’d love one again. Shape is iconic and streets ahead of S2. S3 a reasonable compromise with simplified front end

Imagine a restomod of S1 with S3 internals. Even the 1.6 Toyota engine would probably offer perky performance but a 2ZR 220bhp unit would be phenomenal

Haha, here's me trying to convince myself the k series base engine will be good enough and now you're talking about putting a 2ZR 220bhp into a S1!!

Lol

Sorry for distracting you!

A well looked after K is a fine enough engine. Keeps the car light too, so they say.
