Best strategy

for selling the Exige...

I have my new mini ordered (I need a boot and back seats, boring I know, but can't wing it with the Lotus any more

) and it arrives 1st March.

So I have a few months to shift the Exige. Least preferred option is a trade in, or giving it back to Murrays.

What should my plan of action be? First things first - where will I get a decent valuation for it? Parkers/CAP don't have '06 Lotus models yet.

that'll show you the current going rate, but I hate to say things aren't looking good

market value seems to be around the £25k mark depending on mileage & age. Introduction of the 'S' hit things hard.

If I were you, pop it on PH or Autotrader in the new year. Winter is by far and away the worst time to get rid, so hold off selling as long as you can IMHO.

Then, advertise on here, SELOC, Pistonheads, and lastly if nothing else try Autotrader. Riskee strategy, but maybe if you can hold of for February, as may prove easier to shift!

Yeah I'm not looking to sell it til Feb, but don't want to leave it too late.

It is on Parkers after all, they're saying £23k in a good private sale, and the same for part ex.

Maybe part ex with Fairbairns would be the best (easiest) option.

Yup as Greg says and as ed and I can testify, its not a good time to be selling an exige. But Fairbairns might give you a not bad value (I think you said you`ve had 2minis already) so you may get a decent tradein offer. I did get 5 interested people (2 callers, 3 seperate people emailing) from Pistonheads but I changed my mind again after a week of advertising it. Good luck tho.

I traded my Elise in when I bought my Discovery and got a better price than folk were ASKING FOR on similar model Elises in Autotrader and on Piston heads. This was around this time of year and was a far easier option than trying to sell privately. I also had a respray on hold from MMC so was able to deliver the Elise straight from Wallyford to the Land Rover dealer.

Prob has a smaller boot than lotus too! But I give it to you on the back seat thing... as long as the rear seat passengers have no legs. Can't understand folk who buy these 'new' minis.... IMHO

This'll be my fourth new shape mini actually. I like them, can't beat the build quality, and it's small enough to get into the rubbish parking outside my flat. The only mini I didn't like was the convertible, load of sh*t - less practical than the Lotus.

The boot is small, but easily accessible and I can chuck dirty wellies in it without feeling guilty.

Plus I'm only 5'2" so it suits me fine. And I don't have back seat passengers, it's purely a space for chucking stuff into.

Although I'm a bit annoyed I missed the GP they had for sale. THAT would have been the ideal compromise.

If I had my way I'd keep the Lotus for the weekends, but it's not to be.

Good Luck with the sale - I know what you mean by needing practical, that's why I sold my Exige in May and got the 911. I needed something that my ageing boss from the US could get in and out of when I collected him from the airport, and the Exige (whilst it made him smile) was not good for transporting cases etc too

I also found the Exige too extreme to live with - To make any reasonable progress, I had to be on cam all the time and that was too much for an everyday car.

I think I have the perfect combination now in the M3. Space, power, style, etc. Handling may not be Elise-like, but it could see most things off

Yeah my dad can't get in the exige at all, and it's no use when my mum and I go shopping. Between the family we only have a stable of ridiculous motors, not one sane practical one between us, so it means city centre parking is a nightmare, bad weather is grim, and space is always at a premium. So I thought I should be the one to have a nice normal car!

They had one of them at Kenny Dunn Motors in Edinburgh last week, think it was £25,495 !!!

Nice looking car but £25K+ for a mini

Seems to have sold though

It was around £22k list price new. Only 444 made though so I suppose they can command a premium for the enthusiast.

My friend has one and it's absolutely ace.
