Respray

Post by simon » Sat Dec 23, 2006 8:08 pm

My car has been in Perth for the last 2 weeks getting the bubbling paint sorted.

There were 4 areas affected, 5 if you include the bit that was already fixed behind the bootlid. These were on all 4 corners of the car, on the rear wheel arches and below the headlights. A result of the positioning of the bubbles meant that the bodyshop recommended a full respray. After much arguing between JM Perth, MMC and Lotus (9 months worth!), the car finally went in on the 9th of December for what I initally thought would just be repairs to the affected areas as I believed Lotus were not authorising a full respray. I left the car and was to be contacted by the workshop manager on the Monday. He called me as promised and told me that they were doing [retty much the whole car.

So, picked it up yesterday and it's looking bloody good. They have indeed resprayed almost the entire car with the exception of the wing mirrors and the roll bar cover. They filled in the hole I'd made in the front clam where every S2 gets scraped and all my stone chips have gone. The paint also seems to be a good match, though the only area I can compare with is the roll bar cover.

The best news about it is that it's all free under warranty, which expired 8 months ago. I'll take some pics eventually but in the meantime, imagine a brand new Elise with a nice smooth paintjob and that's what I have.

A nice early Christmas present and no horror stories or problems (that I've found ;) ) with JM Perth this time round.

:thumbsup

I was looking today at my car and the "good will" bubbling repair and respraying of the doors.
Guess what, the door (which never had a problem and were not damaged (only got resprayed as "goodwill" started bubbling now!

Aaaarggghhh!

The inside lower section of the doors, both.

JMR at Perth are idiots and cannot paint fibreglass.

Hope your repair lasts longer than mine though :x

Good stuff Si. I think if I were in your position, I would shell out a few quid for armoufend/defendall.
