Archos recommendations?

I know a few people on here are big fans of the Archos devices, so thought I would see if anyone can answer a few simple questions for me

I'm looking to get one for trackday footage, no need for a video camera, so the Archos 504 in combination with a bullet cam looks like it will do me fine. What's the Archos like for ease of use, recording quality etc? And from what I've read, I need the optional travel kit to be able to hook up a bullet cam, as the 504 doesn't have a normal AV input on it - is this all correct?

And finally, if any of the AMP3 guys are on here, what sort of SE deal could you offer me?! Found a place selling the 40GB unit with the travel kit for £210 delivered, which seems like a good deal, but I could be swayed

The best bet by far with the Archos kit is to actually use the bullet cam that they provide. This comes with a dock and gives you remote control over the device - giving you the flexibility to put the player in a safe, padded case, while still having full cam control. Quality is fantastic on this (alloy cased, replacable face glass, high res).

As for ease of use, whereabouts are you based? We've always got stock of the full Archos *04 range, so you can have a play if you pop in

They are really simple to use, it's an area that Archos have massively improved in the latest range.

Thanks for that Shug, much appreciated I hadn't actually considered the Archos bullet cam,but from what you say it sounds like a decent bit of kit, and I like the idea of the remote, was wondering how best to store the Archos and still be able to control it.

A demo would certainly help, I was actually in Glasgow yesterday and had a wander through the Buchanan Galleries, but must have missed the AMP3 shop Will have a better look the next time I'm through! Don't suppose I could be cheeky enough to enquire what sort of deal you could do me for an Archos 504 and camera I see from the AMP3 website that the camera doesn't seem to require the travel kit to connect to the Archos, is this definitely the case, i.e. all I require is the Archos and the camera?

I was thinking about getting something rigged up for the caterham in the future (currently have a bullet cam and camcorder set up but would like something that can handle mulitple inputs so I could have perhaps a camera at the pedals, one at road level and another mounted high for an overall view.

Jamie - we're on the second floor in the middle of the concourse - it's a unit as opposed to a shopfront. You're right in that you don't require the travel dock to use the cam, it actually comes with a dock in the box, which means it's then compatible with Archos' range of mains and travel chargers (letting you use a cigarette lighter adapter in the car).

Mac - yeah, it would be a good option. The only systems I know of at the moment are more pro-end of the market (have a squiz through Demon Tweeks) Problem is, once you've paid for them, you could just have bought 2 Archos 404s with the bullet cams anyway...

I just bought a Archos 404 with Bullet Camera from Shug. Very neat and compact setup. I am away down South for New Year but will get the chance to play with it once back. Have some ideas already for a test.

I still have a normal bullet camera which I can use with my older Archos or Camcorder. I have used it in many positions on Elises and Exiges including behind the front wheel, in front tow hook bracket, on roof bar, on windows and even in an Exige engine compartment facing backwards. I have also used other video cameras contected to Camcorder or portable VHS recorder. Managed to manualy synch together the footage from 2 cameras but was not easy. The end result was good though with a picture in picture format.

Maybe we could have a seperate forum for Gadget talk such as Cameras/Videos and Computers to save clogging up General area and for users to find information easily. I would be happy to post up information and tips on the experiences I have gone through using videos and bullet cameras along with samples.
