I know it gets asked three to four times a month, I've even aswered it myelf once or twice, but does anyone have a reccomendation other than MMC?

My last experience with the place I usually use wasn't the greatest, and although it may not be their fault I thought I'd try somewhere else...

Has anyone used Greer Motorsport?

I know its not glasgow, but Jude performance have been getting good reviews. Now they are our local honda expert, thats where i'll be going. Besides, its a great run to get down there.

It is a PITA that JPS is so far, but having been I'd recommend.

Falkland usually gets a mention too-anyone used them recently?

Somewhere Glasgow-ish would be nice.

suppose it really depends what work you need doing. If its just an oil change service then kwik fit could do it. If its more complicated then i would stick to a lotus specialist, and to get them, you have to travel.

I've used Falkland and they are great but miles away and I'm trying to give up being precious about my car. It's just a service. (A I think).

Has anyone else noticed that there hasn't been a frost this year.

There are always car going down and coming up to Dans, Shoomer was good enough to bring mine up after the AA were good enough to take it down :)

I used falkland in September and they were really good :)

Greersport is owned by a friend of a friend who gets his high output cars (e.g. RS200) serviced there. Things have gone all quiet on that front as I believe there was a family crisis - not sure what the script is.

I use a guy that works out of a farm between Kilmarnock and Irvine. He knows his stuff and is very reasonable. I was given his number by somebody on here and have used him for just about everything from brakes to an engine rebuild. Usually a Lotus or a Porche in getting repaired at the same time and always loads of Hondas. Gives you a bit of confidence when you see that others trust the guy with their treasured cars.

Look I'm not a mechanic but i realise the Elise is not that complex a car. It moust be possible to find someone who cares about his/her work; who doesn't give you the car back with bits missing or not re-attached properly; who doesn't charge the earth without me having to travel the width of the country!

(Currently Falklands is favourite - do they do courtesy cars?)

I use Greersport on a regular basis, and cant fault them but they mostly work on Evo/Subaru's etc. Not sure if they have worked on Elises but you could always give them a call.

Ask for Bill 01505 683388

I've also used Henry Roy before when I owned my Integra type-R. He gets a very good name with the Honda boys, might well be worth a try. He used to own a garage in Irvine before moving to Dastek for a short time IIRC.

Hope that helps,

And on the flip side, you sit and change pads on Fords all day then a nice Lotus rocks up and needs a test drive after an oil change...

Off topic slightly but a friend just had her car in for some warranty work at Arnold Clark and was told her front tyres were almost illegal so she was quite worried. I just had a look and there is a minimum of 3mm above the wear markers left . Interestingly enough she was told at the last service all 4 tyres were illegal , Quick Fit of all people told her they were fine. You can make your own conclusions about the employees motivation for making such claims.
