Question about the 135R

Post by gorrie » Wed Jan 10, 2007 9:14 pm

Hope this is the correct area to post.

Pick up my 53-plate 135R on Saturday... and for the life of me, I can't remember if there is a power output/cigarette lighter or not (for Navman).

I remember seeing one on the VX220Turbo when I tested it (between the seats), but didn't even think about looking on the 135R. Not a major issue if there isn't... I'll just need to buy an AC adaptor for the SatNav.

And, I know the 135R has the aluminium intake manifold (from the 111S ?). Does it have a metal 52mm Throttle Body as standard or is it one of those cheap 48mm ones?

I know, I really should have paid more attention... but I was more interested in how it drove.

Cheers, Andy.

Good choice.
Recently sold mine.
Yes, it has a cigarrette lighter and I "think" it has the 52mm

Ahh... good & good then.

How do you find the Exige in comparison to the 135R... is it an Exige S?

S2 Exiges were outside my maximum budget unfortunately... but I was optimistic after the wife said that we can maybe get one after the 135R !!

It's a 53-plate, but a 04 model... so apparantly that means the water bottle is easier to get to... but apart from that I don't think there's much difference (badges).

Murray have been pretty good... I did say that we'd aim to pick it up on 15th Jan, but I couldn't wait so they've agreed to get it through the workshop so I can get it Saturday. And they've put new pads on the front without me asking.

Mine is the standard Exige. Well, it's better put together. A little more suited to me.
Performance on track won't be hugely different although there's a bit of difference on paper.

So, you bought from Murrays?
Good luck with that... :D

Hey,
MMC don't have the best reputation on here.
I bought my 135R from MMC (Graham). Good guy but the after service is awful. DO a search for MMC and catch up.

I managed to p/x with Robin from this site.

Anyway, you've bought a great car. Get it along to a meet and trackday

Ahh... OK... they are doing a B-Service on it before collection as part of the deal. It was Graham I dealt with also... seemed a good guy. I'll catch up on the threads and may be asking for places within travelling distance of Livingston then.

Yep, it's the yellow one. Were you in on Saturday mutley? What did you buy? I saw someone (with a kid) eyeing up an Elise behind me... I heard the woman say to the kid "don't touch anything". My kids were warned outside before the wife brought them in.

Bunged in to the price was 12mths warranty, B-Service, Break-Down cover, the usual 'get it all ship-shape' and new pads (that I didn't know about until yesterday). Can't fault them so far.

Nice car - you'll love it :-)

The TB is alloy rather than plastic but I don't know about the diameter - does it matter for anything in particular or are you just curious?

Cheers,
Robin

I had a 48mm on our old R200 BRM, and changed it to a 52mm. It may all be in the mind, but it just seemed to rev a bit quicker.

If it's 48mm, I'll probably change it to 52mm.

Gorrie

Dan has already posted, but after any free servicing from Murrays, use a good independent garge for servicing that knows Elises well.

Dan runs Jude Performance at Blaydon, Tyne & Wear, which is 120 miles from Livingston.

He has not worked on my car, too far away and we do it ourselves now, but a lot of S_E'ers use him, and he has built up a good reputation and probably knows the Elise inside out now.

Cheers for the heads up on servicing guys.

I've owned various MG's (saloons) over the last 5-6years, along with a kit-car (Fisher Fury), and a TVR S1 briefly.

I've always taken my cars up to Dreadnought for servicing. They did the Geo setup on my Fisher Fury also..... and Claire gave me advise on what to watch out for when I bought the TVR.

Very friendly bunch... and passionate about what they do.

I know Paul @ Dreadnought used to have an S2 elise (he's got my old BRM now). And they have just been made an official Caterham Service Centre.

So... I'm thinking that they would be happy/competent to work on an Elise. I know Paul damaged his in the tyre barrier and they got it sorted... and know their onions about the K-series.

Anyone here already taken there Elise to them for service? I've kept an MG for a run around, so I'll still be going there with that.

Oh, and there's a good Chippy in Calandar...

Excellent choice sir.

I bought mine Feb last year, felt obliged at the time, and as it required a tracker fitted, to have it serviced at MMC. They did the A service it required however it will go to Dan for its next service due to his excellent reputation, not to mention the extortianate cost of MMC and I live less than 2 miles from Murrays.

IF YOU DON'T TRACK IT THE CAR MAKES NO SENSE.

I live and commute in town and find it unbearable but when in the mood and particularly on track it is sublime.

Currently driving a Skoda faction.
if evolution don't take care of it, redesign it

Living in Abz, I use Falkland. I've had good service from them.
Unfortunately Dan is too far to travel.
