Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op - anyone used them?

Post by Lazydonkey » Sat Jan 13, 2007 1:32 pm

Trying to shift some weight and trying to get back into cycling again.

Looked at loads of bikes and like the look of this

I know its an Edinburgh own brand but to me it looks like not a bad deal at all. Ideally dont' want to spend more than this - anyone got any feedback? 8)

Have a look in Dales Cycles in the town.

The specialised hardrock always gets good write ups for a beginner/ budget MTB.
I was going to buy the 2005 model back in late 2005 just because everyone raves about it on the forums etc.

however, i ended up going for a Giant Yukon '06 disc and it has done me well - i do alot of canal paths, roads and light to medium terrain tracks... well i did until i got the elise which took up my spare time!

Dales is pretty close to you - go in and speak to someone in there - theres a good few guys to speak to.

I :love disc brakes!!! 8)

Alpine Cycles at St George's Cross (Glasgow) are very good.

Been out for a cycle this morning. Feeling great for it now. Planning to go out again tomorrow...as well as some climbing.... if anyone wants to join me they are welcome

Thats the exact bike I was about to buy, if they have it in stock av it! MAte has one and is fine for messing about and a spot of glentress, stick some slick on it for summer if doing road work and all done.

I've got the (slightly older) non disc brake version of that bike, it's a good bit of kit and hasn't given me any problems. Don't worry about it being their own brand bike, their own range is very good quality and generally very good value too.

I've been buying stuff from Edinburgh Bicycle for years, their service is very good and they will be more than happy to let you try out the bike before you buy it. Probably my favourite shop, highly recommended :D

Bike coop always very knowledgeable and helpful with us. Bought a child carrier seat etc from them last summer, very impressed at service and prices.

Agree with the above but do not know dick about road bikes, for that it has to be Velo Ecosse.

I would check how light it is.
I bought a bike a few years ago from Costco of all places. Front and rear suspension, front brake disks but when you're out riding it it's a PITA. Feels real heavy. So much so, I gave it away. Only cost me about £150.

Lot's of bargains from places mentioned above.

Went to the place today - good guys nice stock and the bike looks stunning "in the metal".

Got the one linked to above and pick it up next week. Was in about 20 mins and i reckon they did about £3k worth of business while I was in

EBC are very good, nice shop etc. I got my Stumpy there a year ago. Not sure about the road bike comment but the guys @ Velo Ecosse do certainly know their stuff.

Just having a wee laugh to myself here.

All you youngsters are off buying groovy MTBs, we went out and splashed probably about the same on SOFAS. How very sad.

:D

Believe me Campbell if SWMBO could convince me that the sofas we bought 3 years ago (at eye watering expense) were no due for renewal then I'd be in the same boat at you.

We've done a lot of work to our house over the past 3 years (new kitchen, bathroom, flooring, bit of re-wiring, plastering, new floor coverings in every room, new walls and fences, landscaping - the whole nine yards  ) but it would appear that, much like the fourth rail bridge, some rooms need doing again.

Thus by buying said bike i can plead poverty for a few months and try and put off the inevitable :D
