ISP

Post by Gareth » Mon Jan 15, 2007 2:01 pm

Currently with AOL on their 2mb service for £24 per month.
Called them to get the MAC code in order to change ISP.
I was going to change to a local Abz company for the 8mb service for £28. AOL have now offered us a 8mb for £24; so no cost to change.

I only use AOL as a ISP i.e. don't use a AOL email address etc.
Does it just make sense to stay with AOL now?

Cheers
G

One of the sale guys here phone AOL to cancel and got the service for £19.00 instead of £24.99 plus they threw in a wifi router.

I use Nildram 8Mb connection, 50 Gb download limit an month. 50Gb only clocks up between 8.00am and 12pm. i.e. if your downloading a large file at night  it dosen't count towards the limit. All for £24.99

No. You should research what you're paying. I suspect for the same money you could get the so-called 8Mbit/s service and your line rental and probably a free calls package of some sort.

I use PIPEX (now PIPEX HOMECALL) though I am sure a lot of the other LLU providers provide essentially the same service for the same price.

Good luck comparing it all though - it's a maze.

Cheers,
Robin

Gareth

I got in straight away with TalkTalk, and have no problems, but they do not have a very good name at present, with people waiting ages to get signed up, so not recommending them yet.

However if you can get their unbundled loop deal at 8mbs, it is probably unbeatable as it is free if you take out their landline package and line rental. Not available in Old Deer, so I am on 2mb and pay £10, and only £10 for unlimited land line and International calls.

ps Just checked Scottys work post code and 8mb was not available.

I'm sure there's a comparison webbie gareth, much like one of those moneysupermarket websites. Google 'cheap broadband' and you'll doubtless find one that can help :thumbsup

If you already have a sky tv subscription, Sky broadband is a pretty good choice. All options come with a free wifi router.

Base: 2Mb , 2Gb cap, no monthly rental charge, £40 install
Mid: 8Mb , 40Gb cap, £5/month, £20 install
Max: 16Mb, uncapped, £10/month, free install

Told AOL to drop their price.
So I'm now getting 8mg for £17.99 instead of £24.99!

Well........

My 8mb never arrived!
Things are worse and I'm now on 1mb!!

AOL have finally admitted after 3 calls that my line does not support anything more than 2mb!
That can't be true since friend who lives 3 streets away is on 8mb with a local company.
So, I've cancelled with AOL and asked for my MAC code. Once my new ISP uses this code, AOL will stop billing me.

AOL are blooooomin pish!
I've known this for 6 years but it's taking me this long to get off my arse and do something about it!
