Accident advice please!

Not for me, my mum just phoned to say an old bloke has crashed into her car so hard that it shunted it 6' across the carpark trapping the lady in the next car

Fortunatly my mum wasn't in the car, no one was hurt and everyone involved is insured, but what now? Police were on scene whe she arrived on foot and the breathalised her for some reason (she passed BTW!)

She has contacted the insurance co. who are sending a tow truck and she will have a loan car tomorrow but is there anything else to do? Is it worth taking the tax disc for example?

She thinks the cars a write off

If you don't already have it - get details of other driver, Police incident number and shoulder number of Cop who took report - you need them all for insurance form.
My advice would be to take all personnal belongings out of the car ( don't forget cd /tape out of player!! )..and yes take tax disc -getting near end of month so even if car is repaired likely to be March before it is returned might as well get whatever rebate you can.
At least no injuries - cars can be repaired/ replaced. Keith

Cant believe that the police breathalised your mum....thats shocking!

She has all the details of witnesses and a number from the cops. Insurance Co (Direct Line) v.helpful and quick.

They breathalised her despite he fact that she was walking back to the car! She has 2 witnesses, the woman trapped in the next car (!) and another woman in the carpark. Apparently the old blokke said he had just had an operation on his foot and got the wrong pedal! What if he got the wrong pedal in a crowded street!

Add to that it's her birthday on Friday

and my dads on Sunday. Well timed as ever

Will check tomorrow. She needs an estate with a low sill on the boot to get my dad's wheel chair in and out. Basically another 307SW as they seem to have the best access.

Just thinking here, but what would have happened if your Mum had been wrecked on sherry? (Or whatever her preffered tipple is). Is walking back to your car whilst drunk an offence? Hope it is sorted speedily.

Obviously not but if she had gotten as far as getting the keys in teh door then I believe that is an offence.

Keys in the door - I often stumble home from a night out, open car to get gear from back before heading indoors. Anyone know for sure what the line on this is?

Keys in the door - I often stumble home from a night out, open car to get gear from back before heading indoors. Anyone know for sure what the line on this is?

Fairly sure you are 'in charge of the vehicle' and could be b-tested and done!!

Yep, AFAIK this is correct - imagine trying to prove to plod that you were not planning on driving, just getting a 3 pack outta the glovebox cos you've clicked, whilst 3 sheets to wind on premium wife-beater

I know a guy who was kicked out of the house by his misses and decided to sleep in his car (as you would). He had been drinking and despite the fact he had no intention to drive, sat in the passenger seat, he was done for drunk in charge!

You would hope a bit of common sense would apply.....
