Can anyone see the disadvantage?

seems like good value - shame it doesn't have a radar detector too...
Quite tempted by one, anyone got any suggestions for a better option for lap times (not at KH, obviously) and amateur telemetry?

£311 to say what looks about as much use as a fart in a spacesuit

I've been looking for something for my Palm TX to no avail. I found something that was designed for runners which looked promising but was discontinued - although it was Palm software it didn't seem to suppport my TX and bluetooth gps.
I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to adapt a CE/Palm device but I've never seen anything.

Your post prompted me to have another look

I'll try it and see how I get on...

Coincidentally I happened to take a look at the PerformanceBox website earlier today. Looks like a nice bit of kit, but what would the reaction be to using one of these on trackdays, given that timing is strictly outlawed? I know some people already use dataloggers, but are they just very discreet about it?
With something like this it would be nice to be able to look at traces afterwards, not sure I would bother taking a laptop to the track... The Google Earth overlays are pretty useless up here though given the lack of resolution for Knockhill

'discreet' i believe is taken care of by the fact this thing basically looks like a Road Angel. I've seen people use them on track no probs, and Dave had a drift-box type thing in the Porsche last MT day at KH with no-one batting an eyelid.
I guess you could always have it mounted somewhere discreet if necessary

What, like the glovebox you mean?
Seriously, as someone who loves gadgets this would be quite neat, but if you risk getting thrown off a trackday for it then obviously not so good... To be honest I would find it interesting being able to go through the laps afterwards and compare how consistent they were, I'm no wannabe racing driver

behind seat, in boot, somewhere like that

Provided you don't need to know your laptimes each time you pass the line that is..

Afterall, all you need is the ariel to have a 'view' of the satelites.

Sorry, was being facetious
If they could build in proper support for GPS detection of speed cameras I'd consider it as a replacement for my Road Pilot.
My first thought when I saw this was that it might be like the original Road Angel, i.e. the product that makes the technology commonplace, it seems a nice integrated solution, and not especially expensive compared to other data-logging hw/sw.

no worries mate
Same thoughts as mine - shame its not the whole package. Still, just bought a bargain Road Angel on ebay, so it only adds a wee bit to the price for me.
..must resist though, I do need new rear discs, and a new suspension setup before I get all faggoty over 'improving' my horrific times!

Why do you worry about lap times? Just find someone who's faster than you, try and follow them and enjoy it. Getting all worried about lap times is a bit pointless for track days after all they're meant to be for fun! I've only ever seen my times twice, once because someone else told me and another from someone elses video.

No plans not to enjoy it, nor to get worried.

Totally agree - I'd rather be hooning than timing
The Snot (& some other 7s @ kH) has a Stack dash with timing kit - never used it

I didn't mean that you weren't enjoying it just that to concentrate on improving lap times is to miss the point of track days IMO.
The only thing I've done is go out with other people and lap with them and try to keep up. That's helped me loads and I've made huge improvements to my speed and have fun following people that lap at the same speeds as me. I also know that there are faster people and if I want the challenge of improving I can pick these people as my 'targets' to try and keep up with.

That shouldn't be too hard to do
