Following on from Greg's post in Jamie's thread about selling his smart, here's what I suggested to Shug, Ed, Robin and Ironside a while back:
- In the Classifieds forum, you will only be able to post new threads.
Nobody will be able to reply to your post.
You can edit your post as much as you like.
New threads can be started in General if people want to discuss a classified thread.
Any questions can be sent via PM.
The reasons for this are that people's ads can often become full of chat/banter/whatever that may or may not be related. Sometimes this involves opinions for or against something and can be negative for the seller. I know I've done it to JJ before without realising and edited a post because of that and it was the same reason I created a new thread from Ali's Exige thread a few weeks back.
I realise it would probably mean more PMs for people to deal with but I personally think it's fairer for people this way.
Any thoughts?

disagree
Someone might ask a question that someone else wants to know answer too. So if they ask in public we can all see.
Also its a small forum and no nasty snipping goes on, mild leg pulling but no sniping
Could we compromise and have it locked for editing by poster as an option your the geeks so i don't know if this is posible

In that case, the original poster can update the 'advert' if they wish others to know the answer. As said above, it's how other forums do it and it seems to work well elsewhere.

As I’m sure you all know e-bay works on the basis that you can edit your post to include answers to sensible questions which you want to make public.
Seems like a good move for SE.

Agreed.
Can the seller copy any Q & A's that get PM'd into the ad?

Seller's can edit as much as they like so it's up to them whether they do that or not.
It's really in their interests to do it or they just get PMs asking the same thing again and again
