ps but why had they not laid foam on the runway, which is standard routine for that emergency?

Think that it's mainly due to the Dash 8 having a high wing, very slim chance of rupturing the fuel tanks. Also there's quite a high ground clearance with the prop ,even with no nose gear, so little chance the prop hitting the runway, therefore very little fire risk.

Nice to see a pilot actually earning his money for once  , nice bit of flying :thumbsup

I thought the two 747 arrivals were utter class...descend, descend, descend...flick the rudder NOW...and down

A couple of those shots also looked like Boeing test material...pity the poor test pilots who get sent up on the windiest day just to prove the new design can land in Force 10 crosswind!

Awesome.

One of the reasons I hate flying! :S

Some skills landing on two wheels!

Nah, they land on 2 wheels anyway. It the stopping that takes all the skill....

Just before I got to Scotland we chucked one down the runway with its wheels up. Now that takes some serious kahunas in an F3.

Also while I was there (Not my shift BTW!) we had one come in with his wings stuck back, not a problem in the air but his landing speed should have been 120 kts, with his wings back it was nearer 280 kts.... fortunately for him he bounced over the approach end arrestor cable and took the far end cable. If he had got the first cable it would have ripped the back end off (Prolly including the engines, tailerons and fin!) and if he missed the far cable he would have been going for a swim with a 15 ton ali and steel wet suit on.
