Finally getting round to ordering a Sports Exhaust...

Does anyone in the Glasgow area have a standard S2 111S with a Janspeed Roadsport fitted that I could have a listen to??

Cheers,

John

Get a 2bular John :thumbsup I've just ordered one! :D  8)

It'll be on the car by Friday 30th March. If you want to hear it, I can pop over that weekend. Don't know if the fact that I've got a 111R will make much of a difference to the overall sound (except for 2nd cam noise).

I've got a janspeed (I think it's a 'supersport' or something)... but it's the 135 K-series, not the VVC. Nice rasp when floored. Drones a bit at around 80mph in 5th... but, if you drive through it (to 90mph) it seems to disappear. Or you could drop to 70mph I guess.

Agreed. Far better than anything else. Spent months listening to all sorts of combinations and took Simon's advice. You should too.

Agreed aswell.

I've got pretty much standard 111S but have Larini and Pipercross Induction. When cold the rasp is a bit high pitched, but when warm it sounds awesome.

I haven't heard any others so cant really comment as to how it compares against others.

I'm v.happy with the Larini though.

Thanks for all the input guys,

I didn't want to start a 'Which Exhaust' debate and had considered the other options mentioned so I had already decided on the Janspeed Roadsport. Strange I know but I quite like the look of the Standard Exhaust and only want a little more noise so I reckon this may fit the bill - Just wanted to hear one to be sure.

i.e. "Around town and long journeys the new Roadsport silencer is not too loud making it easy to live with. When given full throttle it delivers a fantastic crisp sports note, the ideal all round silencer for fast road and track use."

Larini - I did quite like the sound of this one. We were behind your car Simon on the 'Leaves' Run as you pulled out the carpark. However, I kind of want to retain the look of the Standard Exhaust and this comes with the large bore tail pipes.

2bular - While its certainly a work of art - its a single tail pipe design for the 111S so I would be forced to change the number plate mount etc. on my car. Still wouldn't mind hearing your car when its fitted Dezzy. Give me a shout.

Janspeed Supersport - From what I've read this is a bit louder than the Roadsport. Gorrie - I think I actually drove your car a couple of years ago. Is it Wilson Kane's old car (number 124 of 125)?? Pretty sure it only had the Pipercross Viper fitted at the time though.

All the Best,

John

P. S.

Dr. Al. When I get the exhaust fitted I'll let you know if you want a listen.

Indeed... it is Wilsons old car. #124. Still has the PiperX Viper fitted. Not sure at what point the Supersport was added. The tail pipes are a fair bit larger than the standard S2 (and I think larger than the Roadsport).

When are you getting it fitted then?

Gorrie,
Glad to hear its Wilson's car you bought. As you obviously know he took exceptionally good care of it but he also drove it properly and enjoyed it...lets just say I've been in the pax seat at 120+ tuts! Superb car.

Phoned Murray's to ask what was the 'official' Lotus Sports exhaust for the S2 111S... turns out there are two in the parts book. The Janspeed Roadsport at £332.35 and Lotus own brand (probably also a Janspeed) for £381.88. Spoke to the new parts guy Darren who then passed me through to a Lotus mechanic called Alistair who went out to the workshop and revved a 111S with a RoadSport fitted so I could hear it!!

I have ordered a Roadsport so it should be in Murray's Glasgow for me to pick up on Saturday. :D

Roll on the weekend then. :thumbsup

Do you know Wilson then? I assume you do. What did he change it for?

I had expected it would have been used properly (as I plan to do). Graeme @ MMC said that it hadn't been tracked... but, eh, I take that with a pinch of salt. Most Elises I would guess have seen a track at some point and I couldn't imagine someone buying a 135R if they had no intention of having a go themselves.

Andy - you have a PM.

As far as I know Wilson never had your car on track... or out in the rain. Seriously, you could not hope for a better previous owner i.e. he used it but did not abuse it.

Its been a while since I have spoken to him (must be nearly 2 years) but he was talking about eventually getting a TVR.

Cheers,

John

I'm pretty sure I Wilson had that car on track on a number of occasions, but back on topic - Mandy's car has/had the supersport exhaust fitted - sounds great, loud but great :D

Supersport is pretty loud and to be honest once I have mine fixed through warranty I will probably look to sell it for something like the larini which seems quieter at tickover but has all the right noises everywhere else.

If you live in a housing estate like us then your neighbours might not appreciate being woken up at 6am on an SIDC with the sound of the Supersport exhaust.

Mac has already experienced the lengths I will go to in order to prevent the neighbours from complaining - just ask him what its like to push the elise out the garage and half way down the street before starting her up at 6 in the morning.

But in all seriousness it does sound great.
