Guys,
My X-type is needing some work done. Can anyone recommend a suitable garage in Edinburgh that would be able to replace caliper/ pads and door handle rod.
The dealer is wanting £480 for caliper/ pads plus another £130 to replace door rod.... just gave them £750 last year for 40k service plus replacement coolant hose and thermostat (hose split).

Spanners and Sponges
What about the Manor Garage in West Linton, I've seen it recommended on here before, for working on an Elise, and it's just up the road from you.

Why does the caliper need changed?
Pads should be less than £50 (at a guess) + fitting, maybe 2 hours.

caliper has been sticking in the off position.. so i think the price is around £150 for that.
There's a door linkage rod too that needs replaced, otherwise the door wont open. I am gonna give that a bash myself as they want £130 for rod and install.
Also... the windscreen vent surround keeps popping out of the recess. Jag has modified the plastic trim at an exciting £100 to install!
I think old age must be making me grumpy and tight fisted.

Calipers aren't cheap... but I got a reconditioned one on an exchange basis for the MG, around £70. I'd imagine a main dealer will be providing brand new parts at full price though.
Set of normal pads can be had for about £25 (greenstuff standard pads).
I would have thought for a pro, about half a day labour to do the caliper/pads and door rod.

Have managed to save a whopping £309...
I bought the jag parts for windscreen and door from Jag and will fit myself (spanners and sponges day?) saving £145
I will buy the caliper and pads from britishparts.co.uk saving £94
I will get Manor Garage to fit caliper and pads saving £70
All in all a more respectable £390 or thereabouts instead of £700!
