Just caught a snippet of the news- what was that about car tax doubling on sports cars? Surely not ours :scratch

Anyone hear the full thing?

(Sports-car-driving-alcoholic smoker faction so assuming the worst  )

if its based on engine size i would imagine you will be fine.

is there not an argument along the lines of its a light car so its more efficent etc .... blah blah

I find lots of people assume you're rich cos you drive a lotus. I'm always getting asked what it cost and the estimate is usually about double the actual value.

I mean ok, none of us are really poor, obviously, but a lot of the cars cost about the same as a decent family saloon....funny there aren't more about really

My old gent has a gas guzzler for which the tax runs out at the end of the month. I told him to get onto the DVLA website and buy a new 12 month one before the price goes up at mid night tonight.

He has done it and it seems to have worked. If you are going to be hit and need a new disk for April get it sorted in the next 4 hours.

:thumbsup

My Translation
Good
Huge cut in income tax will affect everyone
Bad
Actual cut nullified by wiping out 10% band overall gain to Big Broon
Good
Huge cut in corporation tax for a few businesses
Bad
Actual cut nullified by wiping out 10% band and increasing small business taxation resulting in overall gain to Big Broon
Good
VED for March 2006 onwards band G cars to increase £300/£400 to appease the tree huggers and save our lives :P
Bad
Actual effects are increased VED on almost every car in the country by at least £5 and keeping all small vans up to 3.5 tonne out with any emission control, overall gain to Big Broon
Good
Basic rate tax thresh hold moves to 43K
Bad
So does the maximum NI levels, overall gain to Big Broon
Good
2p fuel increase frozen for 6 months
Bad
So just until the election then.......perhaps that not so bad after all ;)

Who was it said? "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time"

Overall Bye Bye Big Broon :)

Whats this 10% tax thingy :scratch he's got rid of? Never heard of it.

It just annoys me that its NEXT year the income tax drops and then the year AFTER that, the threshold for the basic tax band raises to £43000.

wiping out the 10% tax level is a joke... so someone who does not earn much anyway is now going to be paying even more tax than they were as it's straight up to 20%....

Yet someone on £42K a year is better off tax wise...
