Ach, just thought I was offering something fresh for once but I should have known better
I'll stick to organising things and let the serial surfers post the nuggets eh!
And I need to develop a posting style as direct as Simon's ...

LOL. I have thought the same in the past but as I'm in the middle ground between poster and lurker I just end up sounding like a cnut.

Meant to say did you ever get a new car?
I saw
this and meant to tell you... I went down the banger and money route and pick up my new motor on Saturday... Errm it is a bit sh*t, so sh*t and uninteresting in fact that I won't bore you...

Pete,
Car search called off for now, the role I was being touted for didn't come off so no longer any need. But that red Alfa looks tidy!! Thanks for posting the link, very thoughtful. I got very close to buying a Fabia vRS, actually - yes really!
But doooo tell us about your new steed...go on, go on, go on

I feel the need to justify this.
I was chatting to my mate and the pair of us were waxing about the cars we have owned in the past which we regret selling. I used to have a Xsara VTS (don't laugh they've got a 306 GTI6 engine and chassis and cost about 50p as they are a bit difficult to look at. Comfortably the best handling FWD car I've ever driven though.).
But they only ever did a 2 door and after test driving one realised that it was a bit smalll for the family car (we have a 2 yr old daughter, not as all space consuming as a baby but still means we have to travel less light than we would choose to). So I browsed ebay and found
this.
Hideous. Dull. But very economical and with a tow bar quite capable of towing something way more interesting one day, once I've paid for the new garage, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and more that the house needs. I pick it up Saturday so hoping it is as genuine as he says, 2.5k for a 3 yr old car seems pretty good value to me. I just couldn't in the end face spending thousands of pounds more on something that while better still wouldn't really have excited me, I'm just hoping that buyng it sight unseen isn't a mistake
(I've just re-read that and realise just how embarresed I'm going to be driving this. Oh well 55mpg!!)

Pete.
I understand your reluctance to share.
But it is better that you do, as in this way you can come to terms with the course of action you have been compelled to take.
In this group, we do not judge, only laugh.
Welcome to the world of the turbodiesel, and may you too laugh all the way between filling stations.

(TDI faction)
PS - wish I had your self control, I started out looking for a cheap TDI estate and ended up looking at Fabia vRS pocket rockets and Alfa "italian stud" sportwagons !!! Respect.

i have the elise, and an Audi A6 estate. i should have bought a TDI audi, but the sound of the 2.4 V6 is lovely. Sometimes its ok to be out of control.
