Helmet thoughts for the Atom

Hi Guys

Just wondered if anyone had any advice regarding Helmets for the Atom?

They will be getting fitted with intercoms (already purchased with the Atom).

Had toyed with possibly Roof helmets, but also need ones that are as unmoved by lift as possible?

I don't know a great deal about them though, so would welcome some thoughts, and also where best to source them from?

Budgeting about £200-300 per lid

Thanks

Andy

Would think a bikers helmet (oowh erh) would be a good place to start!

And remember, a small persons head can fit in a larger one but not the other way around!

For a car as cool as an Atom, to hell with the cost, you need the coolest helmet around 8) . Has to be one of these http://www.demontweeks.co.uk/products/P ... SIM1210001

Chin spoiler is a must - even at pedestrian speeds in the caterham (70mph on M/Way) I could feel lift and that's with an "aero" screen.

I'm also on the lookout for some lids - but aren't they illegal to wear on the road?

I would be very surprised if they are illegal?! :?

I think Mac has a point, I recall that from my dim & distant past, but it may be that there's a distinction to be drawn between cars with/without screens?

As for Lids, doesn't McApe's have a chin spoiler? It looks quite mean :)

worth considering wind noise - more vents/sharp edges on a hemlet = more wind noise.

i had custom fit ear plugs made by a guy at the motorbike show a while back and he had some worrying statistics about permanent hear loss after ~30 seconds use at motorway speed without earplugs. the stats got worse the more vents etc. were on the helmet that was tested.

having said that i have an arai quantum f which is magic. dead comfy and washable when it gets stinky :D

last test i read the roof helmets did really well :)

Shoi and Arai helmets are very good and more importantly wind noise is quiet.

However as I needed a budget helmet I got a V2 from bike source Great Western Road for £100 with integral black visor, quality is good but noise level may be higher than some.

its Legal for the Atom

I think the chin spoiler points to Shooomer suggestion. Shame they only have 3 colours of them!

We had this discussion on the way to the Autosport show.
Its technically illegal to wear a helmet in a car which has a windscreen.

But its legal to wear in a car with aeroscreen, i.e Caterham or Atom.

Its strange because either way its more safe.

The above came from Stu P, so blame him if I am wrong.

PS: I like the ROOF helmets, there was a good article when Tom Ford drove an ATOM somewhere near the Arctic circle and wore a heated ski suit type thing and a ROOF helmet which looked cool. That would get my vote.
PPS: Oh and Andy are you going for the "bubble" screens or just nothing at all.
