Restaurant in Edinburgh

Post by Gareth » Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:43 pm

Guys, my wedding anniversary is coming up in December.
I've booked myself and the Mrs (of course  ) into the Witchery but I hear the restaurant there is not that good....well good value for money.

Can anyone suggest I nice restaurant in Edinburgh?

Cheers

A while back me and a few friends had a great meal in the Scotsman Hotel's Restaurant and I don't recall it being that expensive. May not be the intimate venue you may require though. It was proper portions , not any of this twee food that would not feed a sparrow . Hers a linkhttp://www.thescotsmanhotel.co.uk/intro2.html

Aroma Kebabs in Corstorphine road. Then up to the travel inn.

Go on, she'll love it :D

I would try the Tower, fantastic restaurant!

Alternatively the Outsider which is fantastic food cheaper but still amazing, however you will have to book weeks in advance and request a great view table!

Cheers,

Dave

The food and service in the witchery is good, it is quite expensive.but I wouldn't describe as the really tiny portion type resturant. I've been there a few times and always enjoyed it, great wine list, if you go there, read the wine list, you'll understand what I mean. It's definately a good "couples" resturant.

Another good one for a special occasion is Oloroso in Castle street, a bit cheaper than The Witchery, but still not cheap, the resturant is on a the top floor, so you get great views over the city, the place is quite trendy decor with a good atmosphere, ( a bit more life than The Witchery). Most importantly I think the food is great. Sian organised a night there for my 40th, was very good.

For a little cheaper, (but still not Big Mac prices) but very good, Rick's in Frederick's Street or one of the Howies Resturants are good.

Sorry, don't know anything about the Clockhouse.

Dave,
The Tower was the one I was thinking about.
Thanks for the info Giles. I will see if I can check out the Oloroso, Tower and Outsider online.

Cheers Guys!

Only been to Duck's at le Marche Noir once, I really enjoyed it.

Just had a chat with my better half who is like a walking resturant guide, she took her step mum to the Tower and thought the staff were a bit up themselves, and they seemed to like the well known resturant game, "how many tables can you get in a small space?"
For the whole special night out feeling she puts the Witchery or Oloroso at the top of the list, that's a girly's view for you, mind you she has lived with me for 19 years so you may question her taste, and she can sleep as a pax on an SE run, hence her judgement may be a wee bit dodgy.

Personally I find that if you get a couple of Litres of Diamond White down you before you go in, any resturant is impressive.
