more laptop advice

Looking to buy a cheap laptop...
not too worried about spec - just to surf internet, word, excel etc etc
any suggestions?

If you aint fussed, then maybe try ebay for a 2nd hand one. Preferably one that already has Microsoft Office installed, otherwise you will end up doubling your spend just to get word/excel (unless you've got a hokey copy of course).

Only thing is I'd advise 1gb of ram as the bare min on an XP machine, so running 512mb on Vista it will be slower than an extremely slow thing.

*cough* would an older version of office (2003) work on vista?

Should do - although IIRC you have to electornically activate 2003 over t'internet before it will work and this could cause someone who didnt actually own the licence to said software some problems.
Not that this will be the case with you of course.

(2k has no such problems IIRC)

I have managed to install MS Office 2003 Premium Edition on XP before...
and I didn't spend money on it.
No experience with Vista as yet I'm afraid.

Office 2003 will work with Vista. Office 2007 is also available from stockists
