OK OK, I know what you are all going to say but here goes...

Anyone up for chippin in for a hot hatch to compete in Autotest or hill climb and basically run into the ground?

Nothing serious....maybe £1K-£1500 worth of car.
A bit of fun.

If you're looking at a sub 1400cc to run into the ground at autotests etc. then revise that budget to £500 max. Really all you need.

Spend a bit of time ripping out the interior and you'll have something that's good fun and you can thrash the arse off without fear of big bills.

The Beast of Beemer exists, which is basically a stripped E30 325i with a hydraulic handbrake. It's Dom's and he's very happy for SE'ers to use in in Autotests. He's currently trying to sort a practise day, which would be fun - although obviously in Glasgow, so maybe you'd have issues with travelling down for it?

I'll keep the board posted on his progress with the practise day, anyway 8)

Nah, I'm well up for a test day!

Cool - he's got sights set on a large open tarmaced area and he's in negotiations to get use of it. No facilities whatsoever, but we'll set up some simple tests and maneuvers and learn some stuff :)

Obviously, folk would be welcome to use their own cars as well - and it's actually a very good way to get some experience sliding in a controlled environment. Walshy day it isn't, but valuable all the same.

May come off, may not, but you'll hear about it here! 8)

Christ, you think we're letting a car-wrecking goon like you out in The Beast? You bring your car and we'll see how good you are in 1st gear - it's remarkably different to trackwork! Then, maybe, you can graduate to 2.5 litres of thundering bavarian straight six

BTW, just to establish credentials for the 'training' bit, Dom won the Scottish Autotest Championship 4 times (while it had some competition in it) and has been a British Class Champion - also taught skid training for a bit for the IAM(!)... I've seen him handbrake park his old autotest metro in a space 2 feet longer than the car....

its worth making the trip just to have Dom take you round the track/course in the racing beemer:)

He's also pretty handy at helping you work out how to start pulling similar moves without killing your Elise.
