Any good for a daily driver....20-30 miles a week. Plenty room for kid and dog (4 legged kind)?

I like them.
Driven a few - first one was brand new and felt slow.
Second one had 3k on it and, in straight line up to 100tuts (on the quarter mile, natch) it pulled away ever so slightly from a Civic Type-R. Think it's down to the gearing and the Focus' low weight.
Good cars, my only complaint is that the seat is, as with all Foci, RS included, too high.

Right more explanation behind the shed thoughts
If you get the bonkers car of your choosing & a hot hatch then on those days where it might be a bit warm and sunny then you are going to take the hot hatch. This will turn into a habit and next thing you know you bonkers car never leaves the garage.
If you buy a shed then you are going to take your bonkers car on those maybe days. Also if you make the right choice of bonkers car you will find that you find on those days where it might rain you get by with a waterproof and will be surprised at the giggle you have
You want a domestic appliance car something you as much interest in as you do in your dishwasher.
You already have the sensible car in the Volvo so getting an hotish focus for a runabout is stupid as it will depreciate like lead as well as detracting from your bonkers car. Go buy a diesel hatch back something or other a car which you will care not one bit about. For 30 miles a week do you really want the high insurance etc of a hothatch?

Atom? It was a caterham last night
for 20-30 miles a week i would buy the sh*t car possible. Its not like a focus is a great car worth spending all that £ on to run for so little miles.

Yes this was my theory.
However the bonkers car never leaves the garage and I take a 406 Diesel everywhere.
Something is far wrong.

definitely buy the sheddest shed possible G
if your shed is even half way decent, your fun car sits and rots
for 20-30 miles a week I'd buy stout shoes

Citroen Xsara.
Mine was 30k, 3 yrs old, 2 owners, a few scratches ( the last owner was very old and they are all parking dings) and cost 2.7k
It will not depreciate. Scraping the mudflaps on every corner makes me laugh. It does 50mpg (OK 45. OK 38.).
You can a Xsara VTS if you want to go quickly for 1500 quid. 167bhp, no depreciation to talk of (how much can a 1500 quid car drop) Peugot 306 gti-6 chassis. I kept up with (in fact overtook a couple) of WRXs at KH in one until smoke poured from the brakes. hitting stuiff doesn't matter, dings just give it character.
To quote one of the folk on here "never underestimate the fun you can have in a disposable car."
