laptop help ?
When you say dim, is it almost invisible, or is it just like it's gone off AC power onto battery power (most laptops dim the back light to save power when running on batteries).
If it's almost invisible you probably have a faulty back light power supply - check ebay for specific item for your laptop - they're usually available.
If it's still easily visible then you should try running on an external monitor for a while and see if you get the same effect - if so, it's a graphics card problem, if not it's probably still a display problem, but more likely to be the actual backlight itself (perhaps your laptop has two "bulbs" for the backlight and one is intermittent, for example).
If the laptop is more than 3 years old, file it away for ECU mapping duties and buy a new one but try and avoid buying one with Vista on it (I just spent one hour turning off as much of Vista's "features" as possible to try and get a brand new laptop into a usable state - it was taking 10-15 minutes to finish booting, FFS).
Cheers,
Robin
