FFS!
Ive recently applied to get the stupid reg off my car which i had to do at the local DVLa office which is in the middle of fecking no-where and its only open during office hours......They cant actually do it there and then and it needs posted off.

So ive finally got my new rego but no V5 which takes 4-8 weeks to come back to me, but my tax runs out at the end of the month. My reminder is still paired to my old rego so i cant do it online which they cant(should read - cant be bothered) to change. I cant do it at the post office because i dont have a V5. I also cant do it by post for the same reason. The only option is to go back to the DVLA office which is in the middle of fecking nedville and i havent got time to do it.
Im about to lose the fcuking plot!
/and relax.........

you should have a temporary v5 slip though?
Did they not send you back your current tax disc with the new reg on it? You will be able to renew it if they did?

Feel for you Ed - seems they almost make it difficult on purpose so they can come around and try and fine you a grand.
Do they need the V5 at the post office if you have the reminder and the insurance + mot? You think they could give you a letter to take to the post office explaining the situation.

Cheers guys! Nope no temporary V5. Those speedbumps are huge and my splitter scuffed them even at .5 mph.......
Although Ross i think you might be on to something.......my reminder doesnt mention the v5 and despite being the wrong rego i will try that a see if it works! cheers for that!

Ross is on the money - you only need the V5 if you aint got the reminder IIRC.

I was at the Sighthill DVLA office on Friday... want to take my G10RRE reg# off the MG prior to trade-in... transfer it to the Liz, and take the FEE plate from the Liz and put it on retention ready for when the Fiesta ST arrives... £185, could have knocked me over with a feather.
And I didn't get a temporary V5 of tear off slip either... so I have 2 cars currently but no documentation for either. Could have sworn I got a tear off part of the V5 with a DVLA stamp last time I changed.
Luckily, we know someone at that office... and I saw the docs being handed straight to him. He reckons a 3wk turnaround for the new V5's.
I can't see it being 8wks Ed.. seriously.
I have no signature.

I have changed two registrations in the last month. Went to the local DVLA with V5 from car/bike I was selling in order to retain the Registration. Told me they could post it out or I could come back and collect it a week later. Week later went back and got my replacement tax disc with the original number on it and a bit of the V5 I had handed in with details of the change of registration. Still had number plates with old number so no problem there.
About a week later I got the new V5 through and the following day I got my retention certificate.
Once I had the V5s for my new car/bike (which both only took a couple of days from first registration) I went back into the DVLA with both V5s and both retention certicates. New Tax Discs issued and given a portion of each V5 showing the chnage of registration. Less than a week later I recieved both new V5s with my new Numbers. The portion they tear off, stamp and hand back to you is I am sure the bit you can use to tax a vehicle while you await the new V5. Phoned both insurance companies and gave them new details. Both certificates arrived the following day. From start to finish the whole process should only take 3-4 weeks.
The only hickup was that they issued a tax disc for my bike with the wrong number on it and I didn't notice till I got home so had to go back the following day and get them to change it. So double check details before you leave the office.

I'm still waiting for V5 for the golf... 5 weeks after buying it, and about 4 weeks after removal of private reg.

I got a £80 fine for the tax running out on the 7 as i did not retax it at the end of January
Entirely my fault i thought the fact that the tax disc said 31.05.07 on it might indicate i needed to tax it in may but apparently not

Its a joke.
I had to take my plate off the exige, and the garage is holding back £2k until I forward them the new V5 - so thanks to the DVLA and their great system I am down !
I got the tax disc last week though - along with a letter and retention document from some one from Kilmarnock! I guess they got their KILMA`s mixed up!

I ended up with a fine for not advising DVLA I was no longer the keeper of my previous vehicle when I transferred the reg no off it - they take any opportunity to steal money off you for any reason possible. Make sure you check and double check everything - DVLA are out to get you
