Elise R Second Cam - not used yet.

Our car is in for its first after sales service (1,000 miles on the clock), and I believe this is when they activate the additional power which kicks in after 6,200 RPM?
Could any of you guys shed any light on when to use this, when not to use it, and what gears to use?
For example, in first gear what is the limit before changing up to second, and so on? Do I just wait on the redlight and then change?
I don't want to break the car - so any cam advice is welcome

theres a rev limiter. i would (personally) advise that you find out where it is, and use it wherever possible.

you can hit second cam already - its just they don't recommend it till they change the oil from the running in oil. Once its showing a temp reading on the gauge reving it past 6200 will engage second cam, which will let you run it to 8500, with a significant increase in power.
The change up light on the rev counter should help you out though, and the engine will rev limit itself till its warm enough to be stretched.

By use of the word limiter, it suggests the car will cope regardless of how hard its pushed in a straight line? IE, if you floor it in first, the limiter will kick in when the engine has had enough, and wait for a gear change?
I am such a noob.

What about after she has warmed up, with the limiter still kick in?

Yeah but way higher up the range - like 8700 or somewhere - it will be screaming by that stage - and you might well have had a kitten

If you are still learning to drive on a provisional licence, might it be an idea to stay away from 2nd cam fo now?

and the limiter won't save your big end if you're trying to engine brake from silly revs.. i.e. don't jump from 4th gear at 7k revs to 2nd gear...

What would happen, I guess with the massive decrease, the cars going to spin out?

Nah, you`d just get a fairly large "bang" from behind you. Fnarr.

Assuming the bang does not happen, effectively all your breaking is being done by the rears, like a high speed handbrake. Then you find yourself picking bits of hedge/armco out of you front clam...
