I'm toying with the idea of picking up an 'old' Porsche, perhaps a 911 or 968... got about £10k and it needs to be reasonably reliable... anyone got any past experience or knowledge about old Porkers?

I quite like the thought of a white '78 Targa..

How aobut 20 924s?

Had a mate that bought a 1977 911 with turbo body kit a couple of years ago. One of the best looking cars I've ever seen and V. quick.

Cost an absolute fortune to maintain due to some fairly significant broken parts along the way. I'd be extremely cautious based on that one experience alone.

You're likely to get a better 968 for £10k than a 911, maybe get a rough 911 SC that'll keep you busy with maintenance and repairs. Have a look at the websites below for buying tips:

You won't get any decent pre 73 car for that price, but you'd get a very good 944 Turbo, 250bhp...

By coincidence I've just been through the same decision making process, and come up with:

Paid £6K for it, which was a bit of a bargain I think (although I am prepared to eat those words once the repair bills start rolling in!).

I tried a 968 and it just felt too heavy and dated - it reminded me too much of my old 944 and at least I owned that in "its day". Sure the 911 is dated too - but in a better way IMO.

That looks very nice For 6K? Can't grumble at that. .. even with a few repair bills in the future.
