Scottish Elises

hey guys .. i am currently emptying out my garage as a new home for my exige when it comes ...totally gutted the place . my garage is quite narrow though and i am thinking about some foam pading or summit which i could fix to the walls to stop myself hitting the doors when i get out the car. Anyone got any ideas as to what i could use or were i can get some ?

Carpet

Get some offcuts.

Do what I do, just climb over the doors and leave them shut.

another vote for carpet... thats what I used in my old garage.

Carpet is cheaper but I was concerned it would be a bit too think so decided to look for something thinner but with just as much protection. So hows this for using a product like it was not intended:

We went to Dobbies and found the perfect product. It is for greenhouses and is a matting that is used by Greenhousers to water their plants - put a bucket of water on the floor and this fabric soaks up the water in a slow manner to keep the plants moist. It is very flet like in texture.

Must admit that the gardener was a little bit surprised that we were using it to line the garage but it does the trick. With some no-more nails it is the product of choice. Every Scottish Elise'r should use it to line their garage. You heard it here first.

j33AMA just saw you post on seloc about the auto trader. Have you bought the top marks mag??? Or look at the site? Prob get quite alot of exiges on there.

an old dish cloth and some spraymount... works fine for me....

graig , yeah m8 been checking autotrader and pistonheads everyday !..what bout top marques do the cars in that appear on the autotrader site too ?

guy i know said he seen a crackin black exige with black and orange leather seats and orange bodyparts in one of the magazines down south

Brings back memories of waiting 3 months for my S2. I even carpeted my garage awaiting its arrival (was cheaper than painting the floor . ) and of course the offcuts were used to line the walls to avoid scratching the doors.

I must have thumbed the Elise brochure to it nearly fell apart, even had pictures of the gull wing roof that was supposed to be produced. My garage is quite small so the Elise was going to be a snug fit. I had measured everything including just where the mirrors would line up so made shelves to use up all available space.

Being into gadgets I had even set up an electronic warning device so that I wouldn't drive in too far. A lump of wood is actually a far better option.

Have to admit that there is a bit more free space with the R1200GS taking up the space my Elise used to.

i hung a rope from the roof.
i knew i had gone back far enuff when i touched it.
did that coz there were pillars half way down the walls and didnt want to be opening the door on them - helps when tired too
100% percision on stopping location

never hit the door off the wall - but did but "no more nails" with full intention of sticking carpet to the wall.

Remember if you are hanging a rope then make sure there is something weighted on the end.

I can imagine on a windy day the rope would be out and all of a sudden you could end up reversing into the back wall. That is why I have used big felt pens marks on the walls so that I know how far back I can go.
