2 main choices.
Dual up to Bellshill and M8 all the way.
But also M74 north, M73, M80 / A80, M876, M9.
In either case you need to cross Edinburgh, not fun, unless you are going to far east of Leith in which case part of the A720 city bypass can be a bit steadier.
Much depends on time of day & purpose of travel...there are a couple of great park n rides but not sure if the routes cross the city all the way to Leith.
Look up http://www.lothianbuses.co.uk/ for info.

Tricky... When i'm working in leith i tend to bite the bullet and take the direct route from the end of the m8 -> calder road -> western approach road -> lothian road -> queen street -> leith walk.
If you try the gogar / barnton route you'll get swamped in the bridge traffic.
Probably best to buy a cup holder & a big thermos of coffee either way
Cheers,
Steve

Yes Craig, it's pretty variable once you reach edge of Edin. And if you happen to try it later this week when the Highland Show's on, you are, erm, fecked !!

Pretty good bus service from MMC right to Ocean Terminal.
(the one time I've been on a bus in the last ten years)
Direct, pretty quick and only a quid IIRC.
