SE Shared Shed...
Just want to float the idea of a communal or shared Elise.
I'm thinking of buying a suitable cheap shed solely for the French Frolic trip in August. The idea was to flog it afterwards but if there is someone willing to look after it or a few other folks willing to put in some ca$h then it could be kept on...
Plan would be to buy an early S1, cheaper and racier the better, suitable for trips and trackdays (or future conversion to LoT class A contender...).
Could be lent out to folks who've had a breakdown, 'between Loti' or generally for the greater good.

Great idea, but may be difficult to manage.
Amongst friends, I have had shared cars / projects in the past; can have potential to stress friendships.
Things to consider;
As woody mentioned; Insurance (does someone pay for cover for 'any driver' policy, and all who use it make a nominal payment towards?)
Where is it stored?
Who maintains it?
Who fixes thinigs (and pays for repiars)?
Who decides when it's time to sell?
It would really need someone to take charge of the project, (and ownership, to deal with insurance, tax, repairs etc), who could then work out cost per user?... issues of then running a 'hire car'?
One one hand, I would love to get involved (and if I sold Nova, offer a heated garage for it), but on the other hand, I'm not sure if I could be bothered with any breakages or arguments.

Probably right about ownership over a large group being a nightmare to administer in practice.
Just being selfish, I'd happily go half ownership on an Elise/Caterham so long as it was good to go for my odd visit back to the UK and annual european trips.
Best fit would be someone who could look after the car for the rest of the year, use regularly, trackdays etc but wouldn't want to use for the european trips which I'd want to do. As it would be a cheap old shed then spanner experience pretty much essential.

A brief consultation with Mrs Pete has made me think this idea of owning a third car will probably not get pass the planning stage. Apparently I had forgotten we have no money. (I hadn't forgotten. I just didn't think it was relevant. Like I said I 'm not good with money.)
So I think I have come to the same conclusion as you - my folks are replacing their 306 1.4 soon, which is also about 500 pounds worth which I was thinking of getting as a third car to give the Liz a rest and to maybe autotest if I can fit it in... It just depends how cheap I can insure it for.

NorLog did somehting similar but their sights were a little lower, they had a £500 MR2 which survived quite alot of abuse until the AA towed it onto a flatbed when the front towing point (And a large chunk of shell) parted company....
