AO48R's

Post by tut » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:30 am

I think that I may have found the cheapest source of AO48R's for the S1.

£454 inclusive of VAT and next day delivery. Available in S, M, MH compounds. Free fitting and balancing for me from John Duthie.

Hmm, tut as youve used both 48s and 888s which do you prefer. Ive found a place that will do 888s for 358.37 inc vat and del. Are 48s £100 better? cheers Ed

No doubt about it, 48R's are better than 888's. I can justify the £95 difference, but would go for the Toyos if I had to pay the normal price of £570 for the Yokos, especially as I got the last set for £295.

I will probably get a set of rear T1R's for the road at £120, my front 48's are still good, but SIDC followed by FF6 is a problem. I will order a complete set of 48's, M fronts and MH rears, but these should really go on right before France to give them a chance of lasting, and not used for KH.

Scotty has just bought 38R's from Ronnie at a good price, maybe worth checking those as well.

i reckon 48's and 888's are pointless, just use road tyres and have more fun.

also, adding sticky tyres to less powerful cars (this means you Ed) just over tyres the chassis, and you dont have enough power to trouble it. This is less important with more powerful cars as you can still unsettle the car.

and if you have all this extra grip, the load has to go somewhere leading to something giving way....

While I do agree largely with Neil, I've noted more controllability in slide with the 888s especially, than a dedicated road tyre. You can make 'em slide with more than just the throttle :)

That said, I've never tried the Neovas on the S1, so they may very well be just as good in that respect and will last longer and work miles better in the wet. Intelligent choice.
