We need to organise an Ayrshire run!

Post by dezzy » Sun Jul 08, 2007 3:09 pm

Calling all Ayrshire people! We need to organise a run down your way sometime soon. The roads are great!

Went out a blast with a friend yesterday and just decided to take a random route through Ayrshire, without much planning. Not sure what roads we took exactly, because when we got to a junction, we literally just picked a direction at random to see where we ended up! :D

We definitely went through the following places:

A77 down the side of the M77
Down through Moscow (!) to Galston
Sorn
Lugar
Cumnock
Skares
Sinclairston
Ayr
Dunure (the Dunure Inn food is fantastic and Kennedy Park is a good BBQ/Picnic stop)
Maybole
Straiton
Dalmellington
Sanquar
Leadhills (remembered this bit of the route from a wee run Mac once organised - great roads)
Abington then home the boring way via the M74.

I'm sure we didn't even explore half the area but there were some great roads. Some of the villages were a bit annoying because they were covered in speed bumps, but it was worth it to get to the roads at the other end. I'm sure you local guys could figure out a detour though.

So, do any of you Ayrshire guys fancy helping me plan an Ayrshire run for sometime in the next month or two?

Shhhh ;)

We don't want any tom dick or harry knowing about them :)

Jus' kidding - I'd be well up for doing something if we plan well enough in advance to let me get cover for the shop (as I'd assume a weekend would suit most folk - Sunday preferrable) A trip down Galloway is also well worth the time (a la my B'Day run last year) and can be figured in for a good day's driving.

Could even have another BBQ at Elaine's if the weather is good :thumbsup

After Dunure (instead of the Maybole direction) follow the coastline south to Turnberry etc. There were 2 other Elises at Turnberry today.

What about Sunday 29th July? It's the day after the Dundee beers night though, but I'd still go through for that - just wouldn't drink and would drive back that night, ready for the run on the Sunday.

Alternatively, weekend of 11th/12th August?

I'm just being selfish and suggesting weekends when I'm not on call! ;)

Stephen, I'm at the KH SIDC trackday on the 28th, so if it was that weekend, it would have to be the Sunday for me.
