Last year, after our visit to Dastek with the CTR club to get a few of our cars on the dyno, I asked them if they'd be interested in doing a talk/visit for my IAM group. Gerry who runs Dastek very kindly obliged and the visit was tonight.

Gerry has more knowledge in his head than I could possibly imagine! The guy is an encyclopedia of cars, engines, and all things dyno-related! He gave us a tour of the place, gave us the full history of horsepower, full explanation of the different types of dynos, answered loads of questions on different methods of performance tuning, told us all about his own background and how he got into this game, and just loads of generally fascinating stuff. Didn't realise most of their business is actually selling dynos and selling performance tuning parts to other tuning companies.

I definitely learned a lot! I'm hoping we can get another SE visit to Dastek sometime for another shot on the dyno. I'm also intrigued by the unichip and wondering if they do one for the 'yota engine (forgot to ask while I was there!).

IIRC, the unichip is designed to fit piggyback to all ECU's. It was/is pretty popular with tuned pugs and citroens.

I've emailed Gerry to ask about the unichip. I assume it could lower the cam change over point. If it can do that, it's well worth the money compared to the Lotus ECU upgrade, as it can do loads more as well as that.

If doesn't work on the K20 Honda which is a similarish engine so I would expect it wont work on the yota. All they do is alter the fuel/air mixture. They they cant handle VVti control or cam rotation.

So I am told anyway.

My mate had a Dastek unichip on his Civic Type-R. Combined with filter and exhaust it gave 30bhp. Don't think it lowered the cam change over point though.

Doesnt work on the vx220 n/a

Loads of people used to use the Unichip on the MR2 Roadster (1zz engine) and love it, but the Yota engine in the R is a 2zz isnt it?

Or am i talking b*llocks?

Need to get mine back on the rollers before it breaks again. If anyone is organising a rolling road day count me in.

I have a Unichip on N1 TUT fitted by Dastek, and it does not change the VTEC change over point, though I thought that they were producing a modification/add on to do this.
