NLC: Update on my sister.

Hi Guys,

Sis now been in hopsital for several days and is on between 90% and 100% oxygen to assist her lungs. She is in the High Dependency Unit and if she requires more than 100% oxygen, will end up on a ventilator in the Intensive Care ward.

We got some "good" news today, after several days of searching and uncertainty, the Dr's have now been able to diagnose my sister with a condition called "Goodpasture's Syndrome". It's a hell of a disease and it has knocked her for six, her lungs are more or less f*cked for the considerable future and her Kidney could be goosed too. We are all hoping whatever damage has been done is not permanent.

Treatment is going to involve some "Plasma Therapy" as well as dialysis and immune suppression - the disease in a nutshell I believe is her immune system attacking her lungs and kidneys. Nasty stuff.

No idea how long she will be in hospital but she's not coming home any time soon, sorry for the long post - good way to get all this sh*t out my hair! :)

Will let you guys know how it goes!

Gary (married less than a week) :D .

Know how you must feel Gary . My sisters daughter in the last week has been diagnosed with a brain tumour which they have just found out is malignant and gone into her spine . She is less than a year old . The only symptom was her not putting on weight and a slight wobble in one of her eyes other than that she is happy and crawling about . Life is very f**king unfair indeed.

Hope your sisters is on the mend soon, the medical staff in Edinburgh are excellent .

I have a wedding this weekend ,a real mixture of emotions at the moment .

Gary, Like the other guys, lost for words to give you any comfort. Not met you but I'm sure you and your sis will battle on and get through this.

Kinda puts your own stuff in perspective when you read the posts above. There's always someone worse off. Gotta make the best of every day!

Very sorry to hear that Lewis - you seem to have coped and come through. Must have been a very difficult time for you. I witnessed my wifes mum pass away with Breast Cancer and as an outsider, it remains the saddest thing I have ever witnessed in my life. I was outside the room when everyone said goodbye for the last time, can't forget that moment.

Best Wishes,

Gary.

Thanks Gary... I was with her the whole time and i think it partly made it easier. Was at Christmas right before my 17th bday. Just one of those horrible things i guess but makes us the people we are today!
