Scottish Elises

As title, Anyone got any comments? Had a look at it and spoke to a really nice guy called Fraser an i think he bought it from someone of here in March.

It used to be my car - it was a demo from MMC which I bought in 2001 IIRC. It's a very early S2 (not many were X reg). I had a new front clam on it after an offroad incident, but it drove perfectly afterwards and there was no significant damage to the car.

It was a great car as standard (sub 9min btg at the nurburgring ), but I have no idea what's happened to it since - I'll bet it's lived an easier life since I owned it

Fraser bought it in Jan (though not from Robin I dont think) and he hasnt had much time to use it. Dont think he has put many miles on it at all since then.

Yeah mate it's only done 46k and am thinking about buying it. But not sure? Any further info? Sure it has full MMC history to?

Dunno about that car, but in the past I used a transit van with X***USG number plate on a regular basis

Also, check with MMC if they have a history of the car.

Hey robin what happened and the extent of damage that you needed to replace the front clam? And was it an insurance job?

No insurance claim - I obtained a replacement clam on the cheap and paid to have it fitted and sprayed.

I misread the road, thought it went straight on when it in fact turned hard left. Ran wide on the exit of the corner and up a grass embankment - that would have been OK, but there was a rock hidden in the grass which took a chunk out of the front clam, offside rear corner of the cill and bent a rear wishbone. Lawrence and I replaced the wishbone and affected a temporary repair on the clam and then Wallyford did a full repair on the cill and clam about a month before I sold the car.

There was no damage to the radiator/crash structure/front suspension.

I wouldn't let it put me off buying the car if the price was right - plenty of elises have had new clams

Mattress was scabby & soggy

It's not really putting me of it's just it needs some work done to it now to bring it up to my stupid hy standard and am just not sure. The paint is starting to blister on the rear OS clam for some reason. Going back to have a look tomorrow.

Clams were originally intended (by Elise project manager Tony Shute) to be "disposable" (!)

Get a quote from a decent bodyshop, eg Steve Walker in Bathgate, for some major paintwork, then just knock that off your pricing. Then keep it in your back pocket for when you scrape something yourself

IIRC, Robin's early S2 was nice and light and simple...although they did develop / improve the S2 a little thereafter. When it was in his care, it was well maintained (mechanically). I think I'm the only person that ever washed it though

Took a while to get those rims back to where they should've been, I can tell you! And if I'm not mistaken, it even had a set of Bridgestone SO-2s on it...them were the days.

If that was me, it'd be soggy regardless of whether it were a van or pickup

Any one know if the rear has been painted as it's starting to blister on the OS rear just below the fuel cap? Am heading to view it again tonight so will let you know. Any thing in particular i should look out for robin/ campble?
