rhetorical question

Just wondering,

If you own say, the 111R - whats the next logical step when considering a replcaement car. Sticking with Lotus, is it really the Exige S before you really can't get more power for pound? Ignoring the 340R of course, which IMO is a toy, and a bloody good one :)

What would you guys consider as your next upgrade if moving from the 111R?]

And like I said, just rhetorical - not even considering it.

Gary.

Maybe better saying it's a theoretical question rather than rhetorical if you want some replies

why do you need more power?

S1

0r lessons and decent suspension.

Lotus will be realising a elise with a s/c very soon.

s/c = Supercharged?

Don't need or want, just curious what people do when upgrading. Re lessons, Walshy day in 3 weeks :)

natural progression = S1 ;)

...or a car with more torque at lower revs

ye supercharge.

Lessons are the bast upgrade you can buy.

I have been driving an elise variant for 6 years now and still can not drive the car close to its full potentional. I've had approx 10 lessons on track, 3 walshy days and approx +50 track days. Still learning but getting there.

I've never really considered the power element as being the point of buying an elise per say... (which is why I didn't buy a VX Turbo). I guess a likley progression is an R400, Atom or X-Bow... but they are just as much toys as a 340R.... so yep, possibly Exige S. How about getting some sports suspension on the 111R?

If you want power for your £, then pick up a TVR Tuscan/T350/Tamora (my choice would be T350 or Tamora 3.6, rebuilt to the 4.0 spec). They can be got cheaply, and as long as you have the same amount spare again... you can maybe even run them.

Must say... I've been looking on pistonheads a fair bit recently and find myself in a confused state... switching between Caterfield/TVR/Exige... and S1 Elise...

In Gary's defence...he did say he's not looking to change.
For me, if I was looking to go back to Lotus, I would be buying a 135R.
I would like to say it's not all about power but I know the power (or lack of weight) my SLR kicks out helps my lack of talent.

It depends whether or not you think newer is "better", or whether you would buy an older car.

I would love an exige S but cant see it being £15k better than the car I have.

My cars so far have been 2000,2004,2001,2000

I guess the next logical step up from a 111R in performance and grip (and looks too IMHO) would be an Exige S.

I have often pondered what the next step up from an Exige is, and have concluded that for me at least there isnt really one at the moment. Plenty of cars offer more track performance (Atom, Caterham etc), but if you want a really usable road and track car, I can't really think of anything this side of a 911GT3, especially now that Noble is pretty well defunct. Even if you look at megabucks cars like a Fezza 430 or Lambo, are they going to offer better handling, more lateral grip, or better steering feel? I seriously doubt it - just more straight line grunt and eye watering running costs. So, I am telling myself that the Exige is the ultimate for me at the moment - best way of avoiding expensive temptation :)

I suppose high-end Caterham stays loosely within this - but I would say that tho

Don't be put off by a 7's "lack of practicality" - in this department it kicks ass when compared to an Atom/Xbow/340R - it has a boot FFS! :D

I can switch between aeroscreen & windscreen & back in 15mins, and it has doors and a roof (somewhere at the back of the shed  )

I have travelled fair distances (eg Le Mans) in comfort* and at interesting average speeds too

next step beyound a 111R would be the next series of elise.
that will be out soon.

exige S is the next newest, but a different car.
the exige S in the next progression from the exige normal.

so u could argue it would be 111R -> exige normal if u were talking mere progression from what is available.
but thats progression from road based to more track based.

111R to next series of elise would be progression in terms of type for type.
