True.
In a small town people jump to conclusions though and tar everyone with the same brush....
Whereas on the internet we're never guilty of gross generalisations (about people in small towns, for example) ;-)

It was me(*). And if his friends hadn't been there, I'd have reversed over the wee sh*t.

*It wasn't really. Please don't report me.

It's a difficult call these days as Robin says, with us being told not to trust anyone. I was once driving over the back road between Newton Mearns and Stewarton at night in the dark when a white van coming the other way stopped ahead and started flashing his lights like a nutter. He was obviously trying to tell me something, but at roughly 1am on a pitch black country road, I'm not going to stop for some random white van. Could have been anyone and for all I know they could have grabbed me out the car, bundled me in the back of the van and stolen the car! So, I just kept going.

Turns out there was a car on fire further up the road and the road was therefore blocked. The guy was obviously wanting to let me know so I didn't waste my time driving any further. I feel really bad that I assumed it was something suspicious, but I think that's just driven by today's media. Makes us all think that stranger = serial killer!

As a laydee driving on my own I wouldn't stop for anyone unless it was someone in obvious mortal danger. And even then I would be more likely to stay in my car, doors locked and phone the police/ambulance. I wouldn't get out the car or hand over my phone.

It is a sad state of afairs, a couple of years ago I helped a young lady who had a flat tyre and was struggling to get it off (the tyre! before any smutty comments) It was raining heavy but I was worrying would she go mental would she say I did something that sort of thing but as it turned out she was nice she used my phone to phone her parents while I swapped the tyre, she was really gratefull but you worry about these things.

I noticed the petrol cap lying open on a Civic stopped at a set of traffic lights when leaving work yesterday. The internal cap was hanging out too. Chapped the window to let the (lady) driver know and she didn't even roll down the window to hear me. I was just trying to do a favour and tell her the petrol cap was open and it was broad daylight with lots of people around. I obviously look suspicious
