Its fine for Knockhill as there are no noise restrictions but IIRC some folk have had bother at Donington which usually has a 98db limit.
Certainly any tracks with a 95db level (Croft?) would bugger things up.
Home made silencer bung bodge job for me if I am going down there

On the basis of the last run I think its 98dbs from about 5 cars back
.....my car isn't quiet at all but chasing kenny the other week the sound of stage 2 was amazing when it gets into second cam.

Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.
....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I know Croft does have noise limits. But if none at KH then fine.
Still have to listen to it IRL though.

Methinks the 98dB may be stretching the truth somewhat....
I believe that Andy G's is a stage 2 (corrext me if I'm wrong dude) and I think his read something like 105dB at East Fortune. Really does depend on the noise meter operator sometimes mind you...
Standard rules call for the measurement at (I think) 1/3rd revs from 0.5m behind the outlet at a 45deg angle to the direction of gasflow....

105dB seems awfully high though
My old CTR with Skunk2 exhaust and induction registered 101dB, confirmed by Highland Constabulary's finest during last years Tour d'Ecosse, charging me £30 for the pleasure.
That was with the noise meter positioned level with the exhaust at a distance of a foot and the stage 2 is no where near as loud as my Type R was.
Could be all pish mind you, haven't had my earhole calibrated in a while.

Knowing Andy, he's probably blown the baffles out of it already then

It is a stage II, and it is making an awesome noise currently. A few aimless trips to the Clyde Tunnel have confirmed this
I actually got Murrays to check it after the outing at EF to see what the dealio was. At 4.5k rpm it was peaking at 104db and averaging 98db. Lotus quote the noise peak at 104db, and confirm it is only produced for track use (i.e. not road legal).
As already mentioned alot will depend on how strict the enforcer is!

Reason I got one initially was after a quick run in the demo Exige a year and a bit ago....no brainer.

...
Couldn't handle driving one that sounded like a yaris. Make sure you keep the standard one though in case you head south for some stricker tracks

What dbs does the stage one emit then? As a benchmark...

Maybe you've gone deaf!
Sounds like some dodgy measurement going on there. What was the reason for the fine btw? What is their criteria for too loud?
I remember measuring an exhust on Uldis' Exige one night outside my house (0.5m, 45 deg, 2/3 revs) and it read 106dB. All was fine I thought until it read 112dB at idle.

I could feel it thumping my chest from 6 feet away...
Also, Steve Brand's S1 was measured at an ear bleeding 125dB at Oulton Park. Quick trip to B&Q for some loft insulation got him and Scotty under 105dB and on track.

not sure. Had a look and couldn't find it.
From memory I think its peak is about 96-98.
Stage II is what you want.......go large or go home

copy and paste
Travelling in convoy south of Inverness spot a Polis X5 at the side of the road, think nothing of it until it suddenly appears in my rear view mirror as the road changes from dual to single carriageway. All seemed fine but about 5 mins of steady 55 mph later they flick on the lights and pull me over. Polis comes over and says "we think your exhaust is too loud and we want to test it, turn left at the next junction and stop"
So after completely missing the next junction (looked like an entrance to a farm ) I pull off at the next junction. Polis waffles on about exhaust being illegal/non standard/loud etc I just shrug my shoulders and submit my official excuse 'Ah didnae know' but he is busy quoting Bye-law 8448 section 43A subsection G35c that hereby stateth that ye olde automobile shall not be a bit noisey.
So he positions a noise meter on a tripod with a measuring tape as Polis 2 blips the accelerator. Apparently they test it at 2 and 4k rpm.
Final reading says 100+bhp or as Polis 1 says "As you saw the reading was consistently over 100" which is complete sh*t it went just over once, also Polis 2 was getting a bit carried away with the go pedal. I could see the rev counter and lets just say it was a tad over 4k.
Anyhoo I wasnt planning on argueing as it wasnt going to get me anywhere. That and the fact they kindly overlooked my very illegal tints, my squealling brakes and that I looked like someone who had just driven the best part of a 1000k, been up all night with beer n banter and written Type R Scotland in HUGE letters on a beach
I was told its an offence to have an exhaust louder than standard.
I asked what the limit was and was told that modifying the exhaust to so that its any louder than standard was illegal. The same law covers a blown exhaust apparently, which I took to mean we have dug out this old law and are going to exploit it to fleece motorists even more.
Back on the upper limit decibels bit. A Ferrari 360 at full chat is fooking loud, at least as loud as mine, would plod pull over a 100K+ car and say 'scuse me sir but can you tell Enzo his zorst is scaring old ladies'
Would he feck.
30 quid fine for having an 'Altered exhaust' so says the slip.
