DaveG (or other red s2?) Carnoustie - Saturday

Post by Corranga » Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:47 pm

Great to see another out on a nice day like Saturday. I'd just washed / waxed the Elise after taxing it for the first time this year, trouble was that Erica also washed the Vx, and it was parked behind me so we took the car easiest to get out of the driveway!

We are currently house hunting in Carnoustie (and Dundee!) so hoping to find more Lotus on our travels

Any parts of Carnoustie or houses you want to know about just ask, I lived there for long enough and my folks still do.

Looking all over to be honest...

We viewed one in Linefield Road Carnoustie which we liked, but aren't sure about the extra distance to work (Ninewells) and I know nothing about Carnoustie so Linefield Rd could be the trenches ;)

We saw another in Todhills / Tealing direction, but it was too close to the A90.

We are viewing in Birkhill tonight and Dawson Park type area that they want to call West Ferry on Wednesday.

We've also been looking in Monifieth, but the 2 we liked online are on main bus routes and there were neds about..

Basically, the hope is for...
Something with 3 or more bedrooms, a garage, off road parking for at least another 2 cars, realistic move in condition (ie no 1970s kitchens!), in a nice area, for a maybe a little tight budget of around £170k :blackeye

Answers on a postcard? ;)

My mum now retired worked at Ninewells almost all her days and never complained about the commute. Linefield road is fine, I used to deliver papers there where I was lad. My folks have lived at both ends of the town and have now settled right in the middle as it is close to the shops, pubs and of course the golf courses. Carnoustie has excellent bus and train services (the trains being much better than Monifieth and B'ferry).

I had a quick look at the TSPC and the house I would look at is - http://www.tspc.co.uk/details.asp?id=100099, it does need work done but you are getting plenty for your money in a good area. If you got it at the right price I am sure you could have 10-15K to give it a spruce up. I have no idea who the current owner is but I am sure I could find out :)

Cheers. We did see that one, but initially ruled it out because it needed a lot of work, and has a rough looking not so Elise friendly wooden garage ;)
Might have another think though.

At the moment we are looking down the path of letting our current house out part furnished (white goods), so with the added cost of 2 mortgages (assuming we don't get a tenant straight away) and potentially needing to buy all new white goods plus other furniture, moving from 1 bedroom to 3 or 4, we're worried that we'd either run out of money for doing it all, or end up living with some compromise of a cpoor garage / old kitchen / no furniture / 50% of the house decorated etc..

If you want me to try and find out about the place let me know.

I was in the same sort of situation last year, a 2 bed to a 4 bed do-er-upper. We rented out our 2 bed in under 5 mins (walked in to the letting agent and walked out with a tennant, not sure if I was just lucky but all agents were very keen to get us on their books). The good thing about starting with a shell is you get everything the way you want it (after a time of course) and you don't just live with some elses poor taste.

Our place is not complete yet but is more than livable with some furnature borrowed just to fill the rooms.

Best of luck anyway!

Thanks again. I've passed the link on to Erica for her thoughts, and we both like it (and the idea of starting fresh and having it our way) though the home report has scary words like woodworm, rot and damp in it which we know nothing about, and that's before slipped roof tiles and old heating systems ;)

I'll drop you a PM if we decide it's a possibility :)

Cheers,

Something else that may be of use to you. In my school days a mate stayed a couple of doors along and I think I was the same basic house. The loft is massive and you could put 2 or 3 further rooms up there. He had it as a masstive play room with a train set, scaletrix etc - happy days!

Don't always believe home reports etc, my Mum and Dad got a 1830's cottage not far from that, its survey came back with wood worm and bad electrics to list a few problems. The woodworm was non existant and the bad electrics were only the old overhead line to the garage which is still in use and fine 10 years later. Get your own specalist presevation company to look at it before you do anything if you liked it, but use the home report as a barter tool.

Good luck hunting Chris - just remember it's a buyer's market

Not gonna throw suggestions at you cos homes are such a personal thing, but assuming you're not solely looking on TSPC?

Yourmove, rightmove, and remax have alternatives too :thumbsup

Great, thanks. I've looked at others but we both sort of assumed that tspc had everything so will definitely be checking out the others tonight :D
